So as of a little yesterday of driving and a little today i started having a little issue. I searched all over on here and couldnt find a direct link to my prob or question. The car when driving almost feels like it has less power then before i changed the intake from stock and also a day or two after of changing it a just started putting 92 octane in it around third gear im having some sort of boost issue, air issue, or fuel issue. The car in 3rd gear doesnt feel powerful then all a sudden around 5000 rpms BAM power again and no its not turbo lag i no what that is and its not even close. Keep in mind ran great before and 1st and 2nd gear feel as if they should when it comes to the power.Ok ill start from the beginning, i bought the car last week with one little problem. When started cold car doesnt tend to want to idle but when warms up it idles and runs great. Wich my assumpition is running rich"black smoke out of exhaust when i step on it" or vacuume leak. So first off i check vacume lines and for leaks. Everything checked out ok. Let me add the car had head gasket replaced "HKS mhg", spearco intercooler, full 3" exhaust has cat but i checked and down pipe looks stock, and last but not least SHIMMED WASTEGATE:icon_conf .... So first off with it running lean and stock air box i decided to put an intake on hopeing that would help with the idle and black smoke, which it did a little.

Well i have a couple ideas i think that it is and please quote me if im wrong. From the waste gate beeing shimmed i think that me putting that intake cone on it gave me that little extra boost to hit FCO in third gear. Or i also think that from the wastegate beeing shimmed over time the wastegate went bad and it leaking boost. Now one other thing is i checked the wastegate to see were i thought there would be washers but i didnt see anything. The stock boost gauge is showing off the charts also. The only thing i noticed but never heard of is there is a hose going from the turbo to the wastegate which right in the middle of that someone put a hose clamp there to what looks like make the hose smaller. I guessing that is how they tried to shimm the wastegate or something. I also will post a pick of it so you can get a better idea

The wastegate actuator works in a rather simple way. The more boost you have the more pressure going through that hose. This pushes the metal line which opens the internal wastegate. Personally, I have never heard of someone using a clamp to restrict the amount of pressure getting through to the actuator. From the picture it doesn't even look as if the clamp is tightened significantly (although it is blurry when zoomed in.) I think you could take it off and see no change.

As for the shims, I can't tell from the picture if there are any. I have circled the area where they would be so you can look and make sure there aren't any there. Frankly, if there aren't any and the turbo is still off the guage when under boost (even with the clamp removed) then I can't think of anything besides a bad actuator. If the actuator is bad then you should lay off hard runs if any runs at all because if it fails completely your turbo will spool until it destroys itself.

At least this is what I have come to understand, anyone feel free to correct me if wrong.

Thanks dude much appreciated. Um yea that clamp is pretty freakin tight on there. And i think there was a missunderstanding but my turbo is boosting how it should or how it should if it was turned up. Its just the problem in 3rd. Any who i just went to start my car and it wouldnt start for the first time...lol. Well ill take a look at it tomorrow hopefully its no biggy. And hey at least it was crankin over
