It sounds weiiird. When i press the gas you can hear it at like 1700-2500 rpms, then it stop then it goes on like at 3
then again at higher speeds. My engien isnt burning oil, leaking or doing anything of such sorts. I have nooo idea whats wrong with it. ITs scaring me but i dont think its that serious. Oh and my fan is kinda like cut up and my little struts for the trunk dont work. This is weird. might it be my transmission? My transmission doesnt grind in between gears ir anything. Oh and my Diferential is worn and i wil need a new one soon. Hope this helps you guys help ME :D

where is the noise coming from, have a passenger move arround car

check your belts,
turbo
maybe carrier bearing on drive shaft
hell you could have some animal that climbed in your engine bay wrapped arround your crank pulley?

we need details to give educated responses.

sorry but i have no idea where it is coming form other then the passenger side. It sounds kind of like if you were griding the gears but my gears dont grind. is it possible of rod knock, or would i hear rod knock at idle as well?

good news. My mechanic said it isnt anything major like rod knock cause it only havvens at like 2000 rpms. he says it could be anything but it isnt anythign to worry about. Ogh and im getting great mileage with my car. i went 350 KMs on half a tank with a little high rev driving. :D

Actually, rod knock usually only happens in a small RPM range to begin with. However, it sounds nothing like grinding, it sounds like someone tapping on your engine with a hammer, so it sounds like you are safe from that.

I would absolutely find out what it is and fix it, I don't like grinding noises coming from my car.

Ok. well theres no such thing as "nothing to worry about" when it concerns a supra of 7m itself. you should try to figure it out no matter what you think, becuase:

1. rod knocks start at low rpms and is usually caused by dry starting your car, due to lack in lubricant, mainly in winter etc
2. rod knocks are usually low and small at first and are indeed hard to diagnose
3. the rod knock will continue to grow in severeness and noise.
4. if its coming from the top then it could just be a valve that may need to be adjusted
5. it could be your fins or belts as others suggested and stated
6. or as you may fear it could be a rod knock on its way.

now the negative portion of the rod knock situation is that theres no way to "fix" it any more, besides having it rebuilt crank and bottom end.

you will either have to get it rebiult now while its small or ride it out until you want to do something else with the car. IE: new motor etc.

also if you ride it out, DONT worry as long as you baby it and take care of it you can ride it for as long as it can hold, usually a couple of months, (sugg, use lucas to prevet dry starting and metal to metal contact)

then soon you will have to a rebuild or get a new motor its all up to you and youre budget and time.

NOW DONT GET ME WRONG HERE. this is just an educated and well thought diagnosis and response to your descriptions and claims.

i could be wrong and i dont mind, i just want to help you out.

hope all goes well.

*dieclamer* i delt with the same thing. i ended up just riding it down, while i saved and built for a better mototr then switched, sometimes it is more cost saving when you do that way, becuase you can take protective measures as well as investing for the future with the new motor, that you know is good and in excellent condition and so forth.

hope i helped in any way
