Weird high speed problem

I was out on the highway last night and since my clutch is finally broken in I decided to do some top end runs on 12psi. The first time I was in 5th doing about 110 and there was a Porsche next to so I gunned it and it just seemed really slow, not normally slow...really slow, like the E-brake was on. Then I was going about 85-90 in 4th and the car bucked like it does when fuel cut hits but the engine light didn't come on. Checked the codes and I didn't pull any. The only thing that I could think of is the crappy gear oil I have in the tranny right now(waiting for a rear trans seal before I put the Synchromesh in). Or maybe I should change the diff. oil, that hasn't been changed since I got the car(2 years). Any thoughts? Thanks!

I tried another top end run last night(changed trans fluid anyway) and at the top of 4th and the top of 5th same thing happend. Felt like "fuel cut" with no CEL. And after the initial "FC" feeling the car just wouldn't pull anymore.

I had a thought. Would this be caused by not enough fuel?

AM: It could be leaning out at the top if the filter's block or the pump is laying down!

You need a bucket load more fuel up top compared to blasts through the low gears.

Thats what I was thinking. Maybe I will un-hook the MBC and see if it changes anything . I was thinking about doing the 12v fuel pump mod but wouldn't the pump already be recieving 12v up top like that? Thanks IJ!
BTW it feels EXACTLY like FC but just without the CEL.

Would be worth trying the 12v mod as it might be a dying resistor pack causing it or mayne not going 12v when it's meant to.

Check the filter though as no matter what Toyota say it will block eventually!

It's also a good excuse to get a Walbro in there as too much fuel never hurts but too little is fatal for our motors!

Werd about the fuel shortage. I should mention that the filter was replaced about 2 years ago, right after I bought the car. But I will check that and try the 12 volt mod too. Thanks IJ

AM: Filter should be fine then!
I changed mine out when I rebuilt as I had no idea just how old it was.

Let us know how it goes with 12v.
(try to make one change at a time then retest so you know just what nailed it as it could be useful for anyone else if they have the same issue)

I can assure you its not a Jap anything car. This is a recent problem, I have done well above 110 in this car with the higher boost plenty of times. good thought tho. ;) I'm hoping that the resistor just took a dump. I'm gonna take it out in a few minutes. Let you know!

I think my fuel pump resistor wasn't switching to 12v. I by-passed it and jumped the connector and viola'! no more top-end "FCO". My friend that was in the car next to me when I was testing it out said when I downshifted from 4th to 3rd he saw a puff of black smoke. Which I took as meaning fuel and therefore not leaning out anymore, correct?

bbbooossttt leakkkk

when i have had a SMALL boost leak ive had the car feel like the ECU is pulling timing, and eventually it would get violent and it would throw the code for fuel cut.

so i have hit FC before without a CEL. its very possible there was something else wrong with my car, however fixing the boost leak (busted hose clamp) the problem went away.

I'll check for boost leaks. I just checked the intake tract not too long ago and found a huge one.(fco @2psi huge) But that makes sense about a small one. I'll check but I'm pretty sure it was that resistor. Thanks Guys!
