how likely is the water temp sensor my problem?

First time cranking it, it has to crank several times to fire up.
on cold start it idles fine, close to 1000, for warm up.
after it warms up, idle fluctuates between what looks to be 500-550rpm

I've set tps, timing. checked isc, egr, plugs and wires, all vacuum lines - good
Water temp sensor has a crack around it and it wiggles. I don't, however, have code 22.

Sounds like something else is the problem... I believe the correct idle is 600-800 RPM. 500-550 is pretty low for a 7M I think.

Did you get any codes at all when you checked it?

Have you checked Vacuum lines for leaks? Dont know if the Sup will act the same as other cars when leaks happen. It bould be a number of things. But that is what I would check next.

your water temp sensor can be bust and not show a code. and sence there is a crack in it ,its safe to say it needs to be replaced.I picked up a new one for $11 which solved my problem. Id replace yours then see if your problem continues, if it does then at least know it aint the water temp sensor. I highly doubt its the temp sensor causing your problem but that old one seems like its on it last leg.

I replaced my efi water temp sensor this afternoon. The one that came out was bad. It was cracked around the neck. It would measure ~1.5K ohm and if I wiggled it, it would measure open.

This, by itself, did not fix my poor idle. After a little more searching, what I found was a….can you guess…. vacuum leak :). The vacuum hose from the pipe works in front of the 3000 pipe to the metal pipe attached between the fuel rail and head, had a split in it. I now have a sweet 650rmp idle now.

Thanks for all the help
