My fan clutch started making this really bad grinding/rubbing noise that's only getting worse.

Also if you look at the diagram below the shaft that goes into the back of the fan clutch seems to be a problem area as i can put my hand on the fan clutch and rotate the fan around the shaft i'm afraid its about to fall completely off.

So my question is do i need to replace the fan clutch or the water pump?

A shop replaced fan clutch less then 20,000 miles ago. But i will do it again if its the problem.

Will do.

I'm not as concerned with the noise as much as I am the wobble of the fan and clutch around the shaft but I'm sure that the sound is because of the wobble

Water pump. Particularly with the grinding noise. If the fan clutch fails like that, then the fan spins at input shaft speed. You get a lot of wind noise from the fan when revving, but no grinding.

BTDT. Get the OEM water pump, too. I went through 2 third party ones before getting the OEM. First one leaked, the second one wouldn't clear the water passages in the block without rubbing.
