Water Jet!

So yes dont no how many of you are familiar with the water jets that are out there that can cut i think up think 15 inch's thick of metal. This thing is cool i mean cool. The jet has been featured on a couple episodes of Orange county Choppers curtisy of Flow International. It will Cut out any design you want. Let me no what you need and ill see what i can do. I believe this thing cuts down to a thousanths of an inch of the design you want. I was thinking something on the lines of some alternator relocation brackets, torque plate's, j tube replacment's,or anything else you guys can think of that may be helpful to the community. Or could go awsome for some group buys.

I get a few things waterjet cut it's cool for header flanges as it doesn't harden the material making porting much easier!

Right thats what i was thinking also, headers flanges,downpipe flanges, and turbo flanges.

Yep, waterjet is a very cool tool, in deed. I'm guessing you work at a company that has one. Just make sure the boss will let you do this before setting anything up. Even the small machines are expensive to run.

On the other hand, most stuff we would want for our cars would involve relatively cheap materials and very simple patterns. Stuff that doesn't need to go to the programming department (let alone engineering) and can be slipped in between real jobs with a little "nudge nudge, wink wink" to the operator...

...of course, I've never thought about this before at work...

Yeah, 'water' jet is definitely a misnomer. After you see how many bags of abrasive get consumed (but also recycled) in a month by even one of the little (obsolete) guys you might reflect on the basics...there is no free lunch.

Well i do work for FLOW international a matter of fact ive been there all week.

No but anyway they wouldnt be doing the cutting for me.Theres a guy they sold a jet to a while back and he can make cuts for me..

do you know if Flow sells just the cutting head and associated parts? I've been looking around, haven't found much info. I can build my own 3/4/5 axis CNC without too much trouble, but find a complete abrasivejet cutting head is quite difficult.

baaaa we have one here by our local shop i gotten few things cut out helsp to knwo people and um water jets are hella messy as hell i bean sprayed by it more then once not by the jet but the pool of watter were the grid is it all so will cut carbon fiber i got my dash insert doen by one sweet as shit i must say

The tips are made from Tungsten, the same material as TIG welding electrodes, which is one of the hardest metals out there. Water jetting is pretty neat as I have some of my parts waterjet cut.
