Wastegate size - Is it too small??

Hey,
What would happen if the wastegate I have is too small? Boost creep?
I have a fair bit of lag as it is due to large exhaust manifold runners and quite a chunky turbo.
I'm only a 2 litre - so I wont need something as big as what you'd find on a 7M or 1J but the one I've got is off an Audi quattro and is around the 35mm mark. What would this support? Remembering I'm going for 320rwhp or there-abouts
Here's some pics:

if you havn't messed with the timing.. the included timing map on the stinger is far too conservative.. thats why it's so laggy. I think max timing it gives you is 35* on the included map, I'd try playing with that and see how your spool inproves..

I'm getting a full tune on the 27th so the dyno guy will have a play around with me, cheers :)

And I do hope to get more than 350hp at the engine. But maybe I'll hold it at 300rwhp until a bigger wastegate is found :)

Hit up Aaron from Driftmotion.com because he has some good replica wastegates that are proven to be good.

Oh I'd love to buy from driftmotion but by the time I've paid for shipping it will cost me more than buying localled :(

All the chinese style hks wastegates seem to work pretty good once you get the piston/valve reworked and seated to its seal plate...
true, but I still dont feel good paying money to people who knock off someone elses design.

I would NEVER buy a known knock off.

i have a T'netics Racegate (42mm) WG and it creeps like a mofugger. try WG OPENS at 8 and i hit fuel cut (14psi) by 6800

now THATS creepin. guess i need to buy a tial 38 to fit my flange. cause i really dont want to buy a Tial 44 and hack off the flange yet again to change it

as for you. i would check the timing. wait til it gets tune THEN trouble shoot from there.

Doesnt creaping normally mean the wastegate is too small and cant get the gasses out fast enough? So going to a smaller 38 is just going to make the problem worse?

Yeah I will see how the dyno goes. I have a feeling it'll be like a snowball effect from around 10psi onwards - i.e. as boost climbs the wastegate wont be able to flow enough so the turbo will boost more and so on and so forth.

If it doesnt hold constant boot I will get a bigger one.

well yea it will creep if the gate is too small. but its a 42mm. i think its just the gate is faulty

its just a HAIR smaller than a tial 44. and its only a 60-1 with a .68 AR. i dont see how a 42mm would be too small. hell i dont see how a 38mm would be too small for that small of a turbo.
