its necessary to go with a bigger wastegate when you have boost creep.

The wastegate cannot evacuate enough air from the exhaust turbine. when this happens, it causes a "back up" or a jam, where the wastegate cannot flow enough exhaust gases. This means the gases have only one place to go, the exhaust turbine. This causes the boost to rise, which is called boost creep.

Conversly you find the more power you're making the smaller the Gate you can run as you're NOT bleeding exhaust gas trying to control the Turbine speed!

On my 3540R it has a little internal gate and has no problem at all even at maximum boost/flow due in part to the 1.06 Turbine housing.

Usually to get the most out of a Turbo you need to let it breathe on the top end so you need a loose AR this in turn means you need less wastegate to control it!

On my 30R with the .63 Housing it was opposite and needed a 46mm ext gate to control it but choked off on the top end!
