Warning: amateur mistake

The OTHER White Meat.
So last summer when I was rebuilding my 7M, I bought a set of Topline gaskets. If this already isn't common knowledge, DON'T BUY TOPLINE! My rear main seal just let go over the weekend, I'm on the phone with my parts guy right now to get a new one from Toyota.

My mistake was cheaping out on the gasket set. If you need a budget gasket set, either buy Fel-Pro (haven't heard too much foul language about them) or just shell out the $$ on a Toyota gasket set.

Cheap gasket sets are cheap for a reason. I got an eristic one and it was pretty bad. The cam seals began leaking and my old valve cover gaskets worked better then the ones from the kit. They were leaking so bad that I had oil running down my tranny.

Oh don't worry. I reused my 1.5 year old valve cover gaskets, cinched down with some bolts from club MR2 (check it out for David!). Everything else, except cam seals and front main/oil pump driveshaft seals was double-layered in FIPG. Probably overkill, but one can never be too careful. In 60k miles, I'll have new Toyota cam seals, front main, oil pump drive seals in place when I install the GReddy timing belt and maybe the built head ;).
