I've been on supra mania for awhile recently. Im looking to get out of the dsm community, and getting into a MKIII. Im waiting til i find the right one for me. Prob a white 90s one. Not sure, prob whatever comes my way. I currently own a black 07 wrx. With some mods, and a 93 eclipse awd. The eclipse is a pita, it loves to be broken. I even fixed a lot of issues that it had before me. Im just looking to get out of them and into a supra. I think id be doing a 1jz swap. It seems like the 2jz takes some work to get it in. Also i noticed it will take me awhile to find a supra. But just gotta save and find a nice one. Take my time.

P.S. this is my first post.

This is gonna be a car that i try to hit 10's. Should be interesting. Havent hit 12's yet, But you know how that works all in steps my friends. Hope to hear from you guys thanks for the space.

welcome..!

any year is good, the earlier years are much lighter and simpler (86.5-1988), later years (89-92) look better and are rarer (especially 91/92's)...

hardtops weigh less and are stiffer, but nothing beats open top motoring with the targa off..

you can get a factory metal sunroof, but those are rare (91/92 only). Glass sunroofs were dealer installed and tend to leak (same with targas)...

Thanks, yea i would like to get a 91-92. Whats there weight compared to ealier? I hope i can enjoy this car more than my dsm. I love them, but some of the stuff they designed puzzles me. Do the 91-92 tail lights bolt up to the earlier models?

Welcome to the board.

The Supra parts from 86.5-92 are all interchangeable. Good luck finding a 91 or 92 though.

As far as running 10's, get the car first. It's not as easy as people think it is. The car is a tank, and, you need hp to move them and that is money, so get your bank account ready. lol

A street driven supra that is in the 12's is plenty fast enough to beat 98% of the cars on the road.
The main thing you need to know, and coming from DSM's you should know, is that you absolutely cannot be cheap with these cars. Spent the time to find the right car, do ALL the maintenance items first, and it will last you a looong time.

Also, if you do buy one with a 7M, avoid the rod knock "plague" by keeping the oil 1qt over full all the time. They have a high oil pump pickup and that is where most rod knock cases begin.
There's plenty more headgasket/head torque things to watch out for as well.

Treat the car well and it'll treat you well.

91/92 taillights are the same as 89/90 taillights, except the center piece, as the trim changed slightly in color and is attatched (but the red "reflector" can be removed, so it's not an big issue)...

you can definitely put 89+ parts on 86.5-88, almost all of it bolts up, infact I can't think of a single thing that doesn't bolt up...
