hey ive finally got around to upgrading the IC--ive bought the IC already and soon will be ready for the install i was wondering should i go with 3" piping or should i drop down to 2.5" and open it up for the 3" inlets...? any ideas?

Unless you are making alot of power 3" is overkill. If you know how much CFM you are going to be flowing you can calculate the optimal pipe size for your application.

Do a search for "how many cfms", the thread should be one of the first ones to pop up, it will explain how to calculate how many cfms you will be getting per RPM and boost level, along with the velocity of the diameter piping you want. Trying to keep the velocity under 300 ft/sec, but as close as possible to it, escpecially around 5000-6000 rpms. Ian has informed me that if you use a BB turbo expect to see peak power lower than that, so you will have to compensate for it.

That thread is very interesting, maybe should be put in reference section? The links to not2fast don't work though :<.

I had actually mentioned that too, but it really needs to be rewritten and thought out better than what it is right now...

Ahhh...fixed the links in the other threads.

What you will find is piping at 2.5" is good for most HP goals, for most people. When you start using a turbo that will flow enough to break the 500+ HP mark, 2.75" or 3" piping becomes more appropriate.

All the flow calculations depend on what use the motor is designed for...for a daily driver, you are going to spend little time at the max flow of the turbo. For response and drivability, 2.5" piping is about max. For a drag car (with a big turbo), you going to need the flow 3" piping will support.

yeah i was trying to do the math here....but i believe your right im going to stick with 2.5 for now im in between the 400-500....i was thinking i was gonna need to go 2.5 and this explains some of my buddies HP issues as well
