Grand Am will be at VIR this weekend. I'll be leaving for Virginia wed. evening. I'll be crewing for a Koni Challenge Mazda rx8 #66.

The Koni race will be a 6 hour race. Im not exactly sure if the race is sat or sun though yet.

Any one gonna be around the area?

Ill be at VIR on Sat. That is awesome that you are part of the crew for the RX8 team. I have been the past 2 years and its been a wonderful experiance and im looking foward to this weekend. I want to bring my supra but im not going to park it in the general parking lot and toyota doesnt have a spot in the parking lot inside where all the other car clubs meet :(

Im positive that the RX8 is in the ST class so your race should be on Sat. The GS class runs the race on Sunday i believe

Oh ok gotcha. I watched the GT live practices. There were some pretty fast cars there. I didnt know they were even gonna be there.

Unfortunately during our race we broke a tranny around 3 1/2 hours into the race. Right at about the 1 hour mark our clutch blew itself to pieces..So we changed the clutch and flywheel in 1 1/2hrs and made it back onto the track 30 laps down..We didnt replace the tranny like we shouldve..Guess we paid for it..Oh well, theres always next season.

Yeap pretty much.. This was our last race of the season. New season starts in Jan but we might be doing some testing in november.

Wow that's awesome! How did your team do? I mainly watched the Koni GS race, but kept an eye on the ST race all Saturday. That little cobalt was fast!

I was there Sat/Sun and went through the area next to the pits about 5 times looking at all the awesome cars. I had my gunmetal grey MKIII parked halfway between the pits and the patriot course pretty much all weekend.

DANG IT. ^^^I knew i should have gone up and talked to you! You were the kid with the black long hair and the supra shirt on? I was in a green Drift Alliance compass shirt on Sat and a blue hurley shirt on sunday and was pit crewing for the black 1J'd Skyline

EDIT: Those Koni Challenge cars are awesome! I had to stay up in the drift paddock but I would see them going up through that uphill chicane (sp?) all Sat and Sunday, looked awesome!

Yeah you should have! I was watching the drifting for a good while both days. I was wondering why there wasn't a single other MKIII there. There was a dark green MKIV with a FMIC but the owner was nowhere to be found. It's really cool you guys are pit crews for these teams, how do you get to do that?

That black skyline confused me. Is it a real imported skyline or a conversion? When I heard it I commented about how it didn't sound like an RB and the dude next to me told me it had a 1J and I was like :aigo: And then I thought back to the videos I've seen of 1Js and was like :icon_surp And it all made sense. JZ > RB!!! :evil2:

Its a real r32 Gt-S with a 1J VVTI out of a '99 Chaser.

Racerpage who drifts a black MK3 was there but he didn't qualify for this event I think, so he was helping the blue IS300 that was drifting.

As for "pit-crewing" he's just a friend that needed some help. He runs on a really low budget and ZERO sponsors so he needs all the help he can get. I had my little purple Grand Cherokee there hauling tires and tools and what-not, we didn't even have a trailer...

Its crazy to see the spectrum of drifters out there. From the super tight budget guys like my friend Kiely to the HUGE Drift Emporium big rig with the spectator stand on top of it and a full SPARE drift car thats race-ready in the trailer in case he wrecked...

Yeah, some of those teams looked about as well equipped as the Koni teams! It's awesome that you helped your friend out, if you had talked to me and needed any assistance I would have jumped at the chance to do some work instead of just stand and watch =)

The poor blue IS was pretty beat up by the end of all of that drfting =( I wish I'd seen racerpage's MKIII, I was lonely out there haha.

Ughh that Blue IS is a joke... he crashes EVERY event. He slammed into the wall the first run he had at practice on Friday.

Racerpage didn't have his MKIII there. You were definitely the only one I saw there AND on the 600 mile trip to and from there... I was like SUPRAAAAA!!!! and pointed it out to Kiely (the R32 driver) and hes like "yeah yeah I saw it calm down..."

Where'd you stay? We(most of the drift people) pretty much booked the whole Motel 8 in Danville and almost got kicked out both nights...
I was staying in the huge ass suite(with 13 other people haha) on the top floor and there was a bar literally 5 feet from the hotel.
Needless to say the hotel lady came up and told us to be quiet or else she'd kick us out right then and there. ...5 minutes later someone pulled the fire alarm. Cops came, two local kids got arrested, and magically we STILL didn't get kicked out! It was a really fun weekend.

Heh, I stopped standing near my car after a few minutes. Wish I'd stayed a bit longer and met you guys. It's amazing how many people flip out over the mere fact that the car is a Supra. Some guy tried to tell me the brand new GTR parked next to me was the new Supra made by Nissan... and went on to tell me he had a MKIV with a V8 SBC in it.

I camped out with some people from ImportsNC right next to the racetrack. Nothing like waking up to an unlimited class time attack car spooling down a straight! A hotel would have been nice but I was determined to only spend up to $50 on this trip.

Are you going to go next year? I'm pretty set on running my car in the street class time attack 2009. I'll probably do terrible but it'll be a blast!

Damn i saw both of those cars there when i was riding around in the rental car. I never made it to where the drifting was going on. I stayed mostly in the paddock and pits. I even stayed at The Lodge that was on the track at turn 5 it was pretty neat.

We didnt finish the race. Tranny broke about 3 hours in.

I've gotta check out GT live sometime, I hear it's a lot of fun.
