ok well the dash saga continues! i got a small vid...with REALLY shitty sound but i guess it gives you an idea of what its doing...

just surging LOW idle...and whenever its revved it breaks up... heres the vid:

http://www.putfile.com/media.php?n=motormovie-001

let me know if anyone has any ideas....

also i was wondering there is a ground wire that goes into the ecu... i found that wire disconnected when i first started looking for problems... i soldered it BUT i had to solder it VERY close to the connector and i might have heated up that wire a bit...is there anyway that this ground wire could be the problem? on top of that...is there anyway i can cut it off the connector to the ecu and just ground it to the chassis and have it still work? not really permanently but at least to see if it fixes the problem...

my harness is VERY chopped up from problems over the years...i think im gonna get another one thats in great shape...but id like to know what the problem is with my engine at the moment first...

anyone let me know...! thanks!

:help:

ok guys thanks for the ideas... heres a list of things ive tested/replaced with known good parts so far:

NOT THE PROBLEM:

TIMING
TPS
AFM
SPARK PLUGS
SPARK PLUG WIRES
VACUUM LINES
IC PIPES
IACV

chevyeater....i think thats my next step now...i REALLY think thats the problem..but i dont know for sure... do you know if its possible for me to take that wire away from the connector and go to a chassis ground to see if it is indeed the problem? or would that hurt the ecu?

thanks again guys....the saga continues lol....

....and you 100% positive that you set the TPS correctly, right? I ask because I had / have the same problem (only my motor surges between 1400 - 1800 rpm) with my TPS being close.

Ideal: i'd try grounding the ECU elsewhere. as far as i'm concerned, a ground is a ground, no matter where you place it. try to find a good, solid ground, and see if that does any good. i dont know if the HAC sensor would cause this, but maybe it would if you live in a too high or too low of an altitude?

just a thought, then again, it looks like you have an 89+ car, which means no external HAC for you. so i guess nevermind that...

you might want to chekc out a wiring diagram for the ecu ground path, for some reason i think that the ECU may have a different ground path, but I could totally be wrong... better safe than sorry though, ya know

grounding wires anywhere under hood?

we realy could use a checklist of all the ground wires under the hood. if anyone has a complete list of all ground wires they should sticky it in the faq.

Sorry, I missed this. ECU ground and chassis grond aren't always the same thing. The key item in the ECU ground is that it isn't noisy, electrically. It wouldn't hurt the ECU but it may not work completely correctly either (mess up the readings it is interperiting from the sensors). I haven't tried your idea though so, I can't speak from experience on it. If the car runs differently when accesories like the headlights or A/C are operating, the chassis grounded ECU would be causing the issue.
