Ok, so I had a thread a couple weeks ago about my turbo going out, however after checking the compressor, it still spins freely and completely NO shaft play... But it is still making the god aweful noise... I don't have any boost leaks from IC piping, could this sound be a gasket on the intake manifold possibly?

Not sure if it will work this way, if not then i'll upload it to a site.

Turn up the sound pretty good, and you can hear the squeelling sound once I hit above 5 lbs on the gauge.
Thanks,
Kyle

I could take a video of the shaft if you really want me to, but I'm positive. There is completely NO shaft play at ALL, none. I was very suprised when I took off the accordian hose. Like barely any movement up or down, left or right.. I would say less than 1 mm any direction, very tight. And it spins approx. 3-4 times when i spin it..

I have full hard pipes and I double checked all the clamps; they are all nice and tight and none have stripped.

Yes the video is shitty but it's all I could think of doing at the time since my car just started working correctly like 10 minutes before that run.

Leaky downpipe could be it possibly.

I just got my tool kit in the mail and i have all tomorrow off so I plan on removing the heat shield and checking the tightness of the bolts on the downpipe.

The reason I am thinking it's possibly a leak in the intake manifold is because a while ago I accidently stripped one of the bolts out on it... Do you think this would cause the sound?

sounds like a leak from maybe the flange on the turbo or downpipe?
friend of mine had massive death whine noises too and it turned out it was his flange on the inake manifold wasn't making a good seal so it would squeal it's bum off

edit: oh haha.. just read your last sentence... bingo :)

MDC is correct...

Check plays of turbine shaft. (See page TC-14)
Axial play: 0.13 mm (0.0051 in.) or less
Radial play: 0.18 mm (0.0071 in.) or less

If not within specification, replace the turbocharger
assembly.

Well, honestly I didn't measure it; I was just estimating the movement. There really is none.

I took off the heat sheild and checked the bolts for the Turbo elbow and they are all nice and tight. I checked all the exh. mani bolts and they are tight as well, as well as the intake mani bolts.

I re-tightened the bolts and fit the couplers on the Ic piping a little better and tightened the clamps up and the sound seems to have gone away but I wasn't able to do a bunch of runs since there is heavy traffic on the freeway, I only got 2 good pulls but both of them sounded completely normal, just like 15 lbs always sounds.

So, I'm hoping that somehow mysteriously I have fixed it... :)

**wishes himself luck**

Now with any luck at all, my f-ing FMIC will show up in the next couple days and I can put on my new goodies.

Ok... So it didn't go away, it just doesn't happen unless i get on it like 4 times in a row; then it starts up and doesn't go away.

Can anyone answer me what causes white(could be blue) smoke after the car is completely warm and been driven for a bit? It just starts pooring smoke out, a lot. In about 2 minutes I filled up about 100 ft squared..... Is that my turbo seal?

I did smell the exhaust (sounds retarded) and it smells like a fuse; when I say a fuse, like say you were lighting off a mortar shell from fireworks and the fuse is burning; that kind of fuse.

So everything points back to the damn turbo; which is NOT!!! what I wanted.

There is no way I can buy a new turbo/fix this one for another couple months atleast... damnit.
