So I just installed an unorthodox Racing crank Pulley on my car( not sure if that has anything to do with noise). Followed the instuctions exactly and when I drive my car for the first time afterwards In every gear @ 3600-3800 RPMs there is a vibrating/rattling noise coming from tranny area. it stops after 3800 rpm but does it longer and more consistently when I hit aprx. 4800+ Rpms. It does not do rattle @ any rpms when Revving in Nuetral. One of my friends said it sounded like it was coming from right under shift boot. Any ideas?

But I paid Fucking $200 for that damn thing, It says it will take 5-7 days for the ECU to get used to it. How can I fix it/ have it balanced. Why is it doing this its a brand new part. Please be a little more specific on anything I could do. I want this part on for the HP. Anything at all I can do.:1zhelp:

I come from a land down under
Our motors have a big long wet noodle for a crank and at certain RPM it will whip from one end to the other, the stock Damper is tuned to this frequency and acts as a shock absorber "dampening" the whip so you don't feel/hear it.

This whip is bad for bearings...

In a race motor you don't drive in this range and only experience it very briefly as you pass through so it's not a real concern but a road car is a different matter!

this issue has been coverd before and ill go over it again.

i boutght my supra from a collector. not that it matters but he is known for building supra's in my area. good friend of mine.

anyhow, i bought the car off him and decided to ask about underdrive pullys and what not (first turbo car. looking t whoop on mustang's all day long!!!!).

and he told me not to use anything unless it was dampned. so, i decided to do research. to my suprise i find that tons of people build high hp engines with the stock unit in place. why go unbalanced if it came with a balancer to cure the "wobbaly noodle(no im quoteing IJ)" problem known with the 7m crank.

not to sound mean, but do you like to rebuild your engine just for fun? cuz your gonna wind up doing just that.

as as for the ecu compansating for the unbalanced pully, i have never head anything like that before. ive been dealing with n/a cars as far as i can remeber. never heard of a ecu compinsating to that extent before.

the choice is yours. i say e bay the thing.

All of the marks on the pulley is from the dumb ass mechanic beating on it to make it fit.

The beating continued...

Cause some lip bending.

More lip bending. But this was the worse one.

After time the pulley started to wobble on the crank snout and damage the woodruf key and keyway on crank. Notice the two guides on the back of the pulley also indicates movement on the crank.

Woodruf key damage.

One more.

Not so sure what made it wobble like that, but it did a number on my crank keyway. I'll get pics of that soon and post it. I'm hoping a machine shop can repair my keyway, or else I'm facing getting a new crank. There is a local guy in town that has a brand spanking new never installed 7m crank for sell. I'll look him up if I need it.
