so from a stop, i accelerate normally and it shifts from 1st to second perfect, but then it stays in second and will not go into third no matter what, i was doing 50mph on the freeway running at 5grand, it was rediculous. And when i totally let off of the gas doing 50 it goes all the way down to 600rpm(idle speed) and from a roll i have NO powerband from idle to 3500. Now im thinking that it has something to do with the 2nd-3rd shift solenoid or someone else suggested that it could be a major vacuum leak, so im going to see a tranny shop on Thursday which is my first day off and need some suggestions of what this might be before they look at it.

BTW- fluid level is perfect, mods are in sig, OD button on or off doesnt matter still does it.

Why does it say "poorly built A340E"?? Maybe that's your problem? :biglaugh:

well yeah it is and im taking it back to the guy to get fixed, but that was a rev limiter problem in the 1st-2nd shift.

Unplug the solenoids or the ECT ecu, and shift L-2-D, if you get third in D, its an electrical (solenoid/ecu) issue. If you dont , its mechanical, time for trans overhaul.

He nailed it...it's called a manual shift test in the TRSM. My ECT ECU failed and I was getting all kind of shift weirdness...unplugged it and was able to get around till I figured it out. With the ETC unplugged, you are the ECU ;)

And it is behind the passenger side kick panel.

Nah...won't mess it up. Takes some getting used to though having to shift an auto manually. Keep the rpm down in L1 and L2.

It has one connector, the label has "7M-GTE" in big letters and "ECT" in smaller letters at the lot of the label.

So would this affect shift points correct? because when I WOT it will haul, and then other times it seems like its missing a gear. would this be my problem or would it be the kickdown cable?

The ECT controls the shift points. The throttle postion cable (kick down) controls line pressure...it affects how smooth the shift is.

glad you told me that one, I was about to drop the tranny to change the kickdown cable. saved me alot of work. I guess now I need to look for a ECT ECU. know anyone whos got one?

just verifying, so if this doesnt work and it wont go into third, then it is mechanical and im screwed? and overdrive is still not going to work eiter since it is electronically controlled right? and if it does work then potentially all i need to change is the ECT?

Ya, you got it. Usually when they start to go , you will notice a delayed shift that keeps getting worse, maybe shudders when shifting, maybe you have to back off throttle a little then it shifts. Those are the normal symptoms I've seen.

If it won't shift with the ETC unplugged doing it manually, yes it's mechanical. The overdrive should work shifting manually. Take a look at the TRSM for more info.

So, is 3rd working now with ecu unplugged?? If so, you now need to figure out if its ecu or solenoid.
