Hey guys,

I have a 1.5jz im building and i am currently setting the valve lash.
I had to buy about six 2jz shims and 1 2jz bucket because i lost one. (i still blame the machine shop)

i noticed that all the shims seem to snap in tight into the bucket. except 2 or 3.
the worst one is with a 1j bucket and a 2j. i can put my finger on the shim and move it ever so slightly side to side. you can hear the oil being squished when you move it side to side. but you can BARELY see it move.

i checked them all like this. only two others seemed "loose" and those two others are stock 1j shims in the stock 1j buckets.
same thing here. you can hardly seem them move if at all. but you can hear it move from the oil.
Kinda scary

Is this anything to be concerned with? think i should buy new buckets for those couple?

It still amazes me that those shims stay down in the buckets when the motor is running. or do they jump?

I have read of some horror stories on the web about the shims flying out under high rpm with high lift cams. Most guys that are really pushing it swap over to shimless solid bukets. I am looking into this over the winter myself

Yeah i talked to champion toyota about the mr2 soild buckets. it would be roughly $325 dollars for 24 soild buckets.
He say some people actually take the clearances then have a machine shop machine the valve seats accordingly, so that they can run buckets that are all the same size... crazy huh?

I myself need to just get this thing back together. I am running stock cams.

Anti-lag systems will also kick out shim buckets. Ask Albert about it
