I was just wondering if anyone knows someone or has went through UTIs auto tech or performance programs? I plan on doing this after a year or so of getting my buisness off the ground so i can fund my own schooling. But I was just looking for general reviews, opinions, how much does/did it cost, etc. Any help appreciated. Also, If anyone would like to go with me...thatd be pretty cool haha. I am going to either the PA campus or the one in orlando. Thanks for any info!

I haven't heard anything good from the students that graduated other than their job placement was good. I think if you're already pretty knowledgeable on cars, its not going to help you that much.

I went through the toyota T-Ten program at Weber St. university and now after 10 years as a tech I really wish I would have studied somthing that would have paid off better .. My advice to you is if your going to spend money on a education (wich I highly recomend ) get a degree in somthing that will pay off better in the long run

i looked into UTI befor i sarted at my local community college. Everything they had looked great, the place was super clean, latest and greatest machines, bla bla. But just for class was like 20k. Then you also need a place to stay, food, tools, and everything. Im really glad i didnt go, all the kids looked really bored most were sleeping, and they had to wear UTI uniforms. Ah, I would spend the money on a real college and degree, then a year and a half, no experiance, and a certificate.

While I'm not an expert, I'd recommend not spending that kind of money on learning to change oil and coolant.

I've partied with more than a few kids from UTI visiting Boulder and they said it was an expensive way to learn automotive 101's. I'd say buy Bosch's automotive bible or whatever that thing is and spend your money on other education.

Just my .02

*edit, this sums up my thoughts well....

I graduated UTI with a 4.0 and i think i gained an extensive knowledge of the theory of how almost everything on an automobile works. You wont leave school an A tech, and you wont be the best hands on tech to hit the market, but you'll have an excellent base to build on. If you take the school seriously and take every chance you can to get everything out of it, you will excel.

I'm now a service writer making good money and i know i went to school to be a tech, but i have a great knowledge of how a car works to base alot of what i do on. You only get out what you put in.

Read the post below you. That isn't what is taught in automotive technology courses. Well, it is in the basic classes.

yeah...at least the one person to go had a nice say about it lol. I plan on doing either the BMW step program first choice, and if i dont get into that, maybe the toyota one. Who Knows? I still have to check out the school itself and all that. And I believe ryan on the "you get what you put in" theroy. Thanks for all the replies so far though.

i didn't like how glorified and pretty they made the presentation at a college fair i went to. it just seemed overdone and like they were trying to fascinate unsuspecting kids into the program. crap they had a laptop and a tv both running ads for the place, pamphlets everywhere in different sizes (i took them all and compared, they all said the same stuff..so nomatter what you grab you get the message) and there were posters everywhere, and a smoooooth-talking dude behind the table that thought he was cool. IMO it felt like a "go here and learn to be awesome" school, not "come here and get a great education" school. thats just from an external view though. that first hand view from xare is probably more relavant, but since i distinctly remember the UTI presentation i thought i'd share. i think they even gave me a CD to play with....

Well, Im still thinking of going here...The thing is, Im not looking for a career, I already have a solid idea for what i want to do. But, I need to save like 100 grand to do it. So I just want something I can make a lot of money at in a short ammount of time without spending more than 2 years in school. I should have started this when I graduated, But its too late to complain about now.

I went to Erwin Tech for brakes, automatic trannys and electrical....still had the rest to do. And if you put the time into it you WILL learn alot of things but mostly you can do it on your own. It was only 440 per quinmester. I didnt know jack shit when i went into the school and i came out with more than i had which was worth it. Gotta go back to finish eventually. Schooling is more for if you want to get ASE Certified.

What I learned there before I left...

"Gasoline turbocharged cars don't have vacuum brake boosters."

That should tell you enough.

i am currently attending the Avondale, AZ campus and yes they made it sound all nice and pretty, even tho some of the teachers are a little weird I have learned alot and i knew a shit load b4 i came down here. and what really makes it look bad is all the students that drop out b/c they seem to cant get up early enough or just sleep in class or just dont give a shit. and those are the ppl that went there and says all the shitty stuff about it.

im paying 33,300 for auto/diesel/industrial w/ ford fact(extra electronic diagnosis) and i signed up in Aug 05 and started April 23, 2007

the Auto only program is now around 24-28000.

thats pretty nasty. And yeah Idk why they ackro-named their school after urinary tract infections, beats me. Im going to check out the exton PA campus next weekend. I want to see what its like. I just called the guy to make the appointment today. Im still thinking of this vs a 2 year degree in buisness management. If i goto UTI it will be with intentions of either the bmw, vw, or toyota/lexus advanced programs.
