I had a tear in the upper door panel on the driver's side. I had a very good and expensive body shop repair it. It was an extensive tear and he did a very good job.It cost me $400. Got the grain match correct and blends well. However, with this hot weather I have noticed that a small area of vinyl is starting to bubble up a bit. It's not bad, but I am afraid that if I leave it out in the heat it will continue to get worse and more bubbles will come up. What causes the vinyl (or stuff he used) to do this? Is there anything that can fix it or will it have to be redone. I am also considering just ordering a whole new driver side panel for a dark blue 1990 Supra. Problem is they are hard to find in good condition. Thanks for your input.

Prolly the glue the used is not working well with the heat.

A lot of the stock panels will start cracking and such. Pretty common after all the years.

Not to sure if you can even get a new panel from Toyota. But you can find them used on here.

Your funny. I am just wondering what do you mean by "rebuilding the entire panel". My gf broke up with me and I kinda flipped out. I had a small tear and accidentally made it into a 6 inches tear across the length of the upper door liner. So the vinyl repair specialist did redo most of the upper panel. He got a good grain match. The repair was done dec 2011. It has held up well. But now that it is getting hot, the interior and the vinyl heats up significantly and this is causing some warping of the material he used. Not sure what he used to fix tear. Probably a kind of liquid vinyl with bonding agent. Don't know. Right now I can live with it. But if it does get worse I will have to go back to my guy and have him redo it. It will NEVER be perfect unless I can get a stock panel for driver's side. They are hard to get for a dark blue '90. Also the car has been garaged and the panel is practically mint. So a panel from a junkyard or a guy selling parts, probably is not going to have the panel in the condition I want. I could end up spending good money for a panel that is in worse condition than what I already have.

By rebuilding, we mean take the whole panel apart, have a new piece of vinyl cut, and replace the entire piece of vinyl that is torn. Now can you quit reposting this?

I am sorry for repeating myself. But if you know how a '90 panel is designed there is no edge. The vinyl wraps around the entire door panel. I understand what you are suggesting, but they would have to create a line somewhere around where the arm rest is. And then create the same line on the door panel on the passenger side in the same place! I guess they could stich the thing, but it won't look right. It's not like these new upper panels which is just a small piece, and then it cuts off. This wraps all the way around. I have looked at some old panels they have for sale on this site. They all look like crap. I guess I will eventually have to go back to my guy for a redo. Or just not use the car during the whole summer lol!

They were able to do it at the factory, so its not impossible. It will be expensive, it will require someone who is very talented. How much is it worth to you...

How do I contact the factory? I guess they would have to cut out a piece of vinyl with same grain match, paint and install. I called Toyota...they don't make that panel anymore. I could look at junkyards, but the condition of panel would probably we worse than what I already have.

Life is hard guys! We are all Supra fanatics and if you are into your car's appearance you have a problem. No one gives a fuck about your property, they will back into it, ding it, key it, and I have even had my rear hatch window bashed out. That's why I am a bit of a nut about my car. I have had a lot happen to me. And people pull me over asking me to sell the car. May have to get a glock 9mm...just kidding. But I do feel like a target at times..... and we all know nobody gives a fuck about your Supra and mine.
