Upgrading oil Cooler question

I found out yesterday that my stock oil cooler is cracked and bent beyond repair. It happened at my friends shop where I have a little project going on. Anyways, I am not ready to do a full Oil system upgrade yet, but I was wondering If I can just get a better Oil cooler like the B&M Supercooler 70266 for now and just connect it to the stock oil lines, meaning just replacing the broken cooler with a B&M one. I will off course follow thru with the NA block adapter, Thermostat etc probably later in the summer. Will the only difference be just adding a little more oil due to bigger Cooler? I searched but havent ran into that actual question. I'll go back to continue searching now.

Thanks

You can do it that way but make sure you get a cooler that uses threaded fittings instead of the nipples that are attached that way when you upgrade all you have to do is get pipe thread to -an fittings

The GTE filter housing bypasses oil to the cooler based on pressure, not temperature.... which is retarded, considering cold oil is thicker than hot oil, meaning that the cold oil gets send to the cooler more readily than the hot oil.... backwards philosophies at toyota in the late 80's.

Which brings my next question, I have decided to go all out and get the NA piece, and relo kit from summit. I will be using the famous Larry A graph as reference. I live in Miami florida, and the coldest we see here is the 40s and thats rare, and when its that low it only last 2-3 days. Do I really need the Oil thermostat? I have a turbo system thats NOT water cooler, only oiled cooled, so i figure this itself keeps my oil pretty warm.

Bonus question, If you guys feel that I should still put the thermostat, i am looking at the B&M and the Permacool one, Is one better than the other besides price?

I come from a land down under
B&M and the PC one are same shit different packaging I suspect they're both made in the same factory so it will come down to price.

If you're only running it as a Bypass Cooler (Stock style) You can get away with no T Stat and it won't ever overcool the oil but if you go Full Flow (NA Stud and Remote Filter>Cooler>Motor) you really need temp control.

Just to let everyone know..... Cost of the full system..

B&M thermo : $65
B&M cooler : $75 (biggest one they make)
Filter relocation kit $36(summit)
AN Lines + fittings in -10 $~250/300(that price is all aeroquip braided hose and AQP fittings.)

Thats the discouraging part, I will probably use the provided lines for now and slowly upgrade to braided lines later.

Anybody else running the system without the thermostat? Nashman, I understand you do not run the thermostat, and you are in Canada, any problems? Are you running a Fullflow system? or relief valve system

You dont have to use SS Braided lines. I used the socketless an fittings and socketless hose which the total was still about $250 for the full set up and I am pleased with it.
