Just some advice for you guys that plan on making big power, er, high boost... :aigo: :evil2: :aigo:

Also, ZIP TIE all your vacuum lines, especially your boost referance vacuum line...

Whatelse? Oh yeah, when you change your brakes and rotors, make sure you tighhten your lug nuts... ALL OF THEM! Not just one...

I hope my little trial and tribulation helps you guys... :biglaugh: :biglaugh: :biglaugh:

Well, here's what happened...

Car was making slow boost, and hitting what fealt like fuel cut... Talked to you guys, and consensus says: boost leak...

Well, driving it, it would be making alot of noise, not alot of power, so I just watched the boost guage and it pegged 30... Damn, I thought maybe my EVC IV had f'd up... SO I turned it off, did a quick pull, and it didnt peg 30, cuz I let off the gas as soon as it went past 13... That's when it dawned on me that I lost my boost reference connection... Pulled over, plugged it back in, and everything was cool...

Got onto a nice stretch, and raced my budy in his WRX STi... I should've pulled away like nothin, but it just didnt feel like it had any power, no balls... I got a slight pull on and thats where it stayed... When I shifted from 3rd to 4th, the RPMs never went under 5000,*???wierd???* and when I floored it, the RPMs didnt go up it just got noisy, but stayed at exactly 5000rpm... Then it "launched" forward, and POP! I floored the clutch, put it in neutral and just coasted... My buddy was like, is the motor still running? And yes, it was, but my heart was about to explode... lol... Slowed down to 50mph, and put it back in 5th, and she drove fine... So we just cruised along, everything seemed ok... I was like, that was one big ass backfire... Buddy was like, YEAH! That was loud...

So I get to a red light, and Im in the pole possition, so when the light turns green, I try to get on her a little to see whats gunna happen and NO boost... From neg 20 to zero... And that was it... So I looked at Jason and was like, SWEET! I have a low compression NA now, lol! Thats when I realized I must've blown an IC coupler... *having an HKS VPC, I can take it off at the 3000 pipe and the car would run just fine: thought I'd mention that before some one trips out on how I can still run with a blown off coupler, I know what it's like to blow a coupler with the stock maf, yikes*

Anyway, when I got home, popped the hood, and sure enough, blew a coupler apart, probably where my leak was, probably a small hole now made HUGE... And of course, boost ref vac line blown off again...

Errrr... Clift notes: Jake spike boost due to lost boost ref vac line, ran an STI should've walked him couldnt cuz wierd thing happenin, then blew coupler apart, got home found it, made this thread... Now the hunt is on for better couplers and T-clamps... :D:D:D

you can not make big power without t-bolts eveywhere and there is no way to miss it as you start blowing everything of

Not true.

I have seen many cars run "big" power with just regular plumbing clamps.

One of which sports a Garrett GT42R. Also NOT using silicone couplers. No problems.

Blackout, my problem is I have at least three 90* rubber elbows... *maybe four... ???* Anyway, I dont think 90* elbows are a good idea, and the one that blew was rubbing against metal frame work...

Im sure worm clamps work fine, but the problem with them is if you tighten them too much, you can strip them, and they loosen up easily...

Oh I agree completely.

Reinforced silicone and t-bolts is the way to go for sure. Im just clarifying that it isn't NEEDED, only a really good suggestions.
