hey guys,

getting towards the two-year mark on my school computer, a toshiba portege m400 tablet.

i'm going to need to get a new battery before next year, and figured i'd see if it was possible to upgrade the processor while i'm at it and clean/replace some cooling components. i don't think i can switch the fan/heatsink but might be able to get some better thermal grease.

as far as i know, the processor right now is a core2 t7400 2.16ghz cpu. would it be possible to upgrade to something faster?

i doubt this is all the info you guys would need to answer the questions, so let me know if i've left things out.

thanks!

lol at first read i saw toshiba toilet. i thought to myself "wow i didnt know toshiba made toilets" came here expecting a high tech super automatic flushing butt washing toilet with fancy lights maybe wifi capable and a built in laptop that folds from the side for those that take long poops. then i realize it said tablet.

on a serious note there really isnt much you can do. laptops and all are cheap now days maybe find a decent one at a decent price?

Laptops are normally restricted to hard drive, memory, cards, and battery changes. On very few laptops, you CAN upgrade the CPU but it's not so easy.

What do you use it for anyway? If you have questions, you can just message me on AIM.

"refurbished" = brand new, as they can't sell a canceled custom laptop as new anymore. Good laptops and for like 1/2 the price of the ones bought new.

i'd like to buy a new one but the engineering dept has a tablet requirement. last one i bought was around 2500 by the time it was all over, i'd rather not have to spend near that much again. i think i'm going to get a new hard drive and see how that handles the situation.

brings me to my next question: cloning. i dl'd xxclone but it looks like that'll wipe the target drive and make an exact copy of my laptop's drive.

i also have my comp set to back up to my external whenever i dock, but i'm not sure i'd like to trust a backup. rather have an exact copy cause it's taken two years to get this computer set up how i like it.

is there a way to make a complete clone and store that on my external until the new hard drive arrives?
