I installed a new fan clutch from A2 Motorsports (Automotive Express), to replace my old OEM unit which was making a lot of noise. After i installed the new unit it made even more noise, sounds like a diesel truck coming down the road. It only does this at low speeds, when its really hot, and on start up. After a while it slow down and will be hardly noticable. When i have it in park or neutral and rev the motor it sounds like a hurricane (Diesel Truck). When i try to spin it by hand after the car warms up the fan goes to where ever my hand stops. Ill get a video of it uploaded soon. Is this normal operation of a new fan clutch?

Thanks

Ok that rules out the GE blades on the GTE clutch theory ;)

Does it uncouple at all when it's cold?

When it hasn't been running overnight see if you can turn it easily by hand.

i tried it this morning actually and it was slighter harder to turn by hand than it was in the video.

And that rules out a stuck valve ;)

Maybe it's just that it's actually working now and you're not used to the noise?

So new clutches are supposed to sound like diesel trucks at low speeds?

After i changed the clutch i was expecting my fuel economy to get better and it went from 7.9 to 9.4. I remember hearing someone saying that the unit i recieved was locked up or something like that.

It'll have some "stiction" when new and should free up a little in time.

If it were locked up you wouldn't be able to turn it by hand.

Just DLing the vid now (your vid site is a slow PITA) ;)

No shroud and the air falling off the tips of the blades will be noisy.
(The Bimetallic strip on the clutch valve isn't see the correct temps coming through the rad so will be "on" longer)

I feel kind of dumb now i didnt think that the shroud would play in to being a huge factor. Thanks for the help though i will be purchasing a new shroud soon.
