Here is a little update on what's been going on with the supra, I have removed all of the sound deadening material using lots and lots of dry ice. I also re-sealed all of the seams in side the car with Eastwood's Rust Encapsulator, This stuff works wonders. I just received in the mail my new 8 Point roll cage from S and W Racing, very nice cage. I'm plan on fitting the cage in this weekend and getting the cage and window frame welded in the next couple of week. As for the engine, I got the new 92 aluminum motor mount brackets installed, and the 1JZ coil pack holder designed for the 7M. Ill try to take some pictures this week end and post them up.:naughty:

Here are the pictures I took this weekend of the roll cage pieced together in the car, I also picked up my 16 Gal fuel cell which will be mounted in once my sheet steel arrives.

That looks pretty sweet! I'm probably displaying my ignorance here, but what are the little "post" things around the windshield frame?

R/M says: you are not ignorant... That's a good question! Never be afraid to ask a question, it's how you learn stuff, by asking... :D

They're used to hold down the plexi windshield...

Pat, are you making a full blown drag car out of this?

No, it is actually going to be street driven and used for auto cross, The Post things are called Clecos, they are clamps I'm using to hold the otter A pillar frame on to the main inner support. The original outside A pillar was the only thing rusted on the car, so I replaced it. I just haven't welded it up yet cause I'm waiting to get everything that needs to be welded in first and weld all at once. I will be using a standard glass windshield in the car, so it will appear stock. I have another thread on here showing how I drilled out all of the spot welds and installed the new frame.

Hah, I wasn't afraid or I wouldn't have asked! And I use the word "ignorant" in the strictest sense, which to me, just means uninformed of the facts. Thanks for clarifying though Reign! I'm a huge advocate of asking questions on this forum - the collective knowledge around here is staggering!
Just showin ya support buddy.. :bigthumb:
By the way, it looks like they're not for plexi at all! :biglaugh: They're more for what I was originally thinking. I had first thought they were some sort of welding fastener that hadn't been completed yet. But given my very limited knowledge of welding techniques, I thought I might have been way off.

Thats looking great! Did you build the rollbar yourself?
The roll cage is from S&W Racing, They did a great job on it, My only complain is the rear bars need to be longer, i contacted them and they are going to send me one that are 8" longer. Also I'm going to add an X brace to make it a 10 Point.

Looking gorgeous! I've loved that red since the fist small pic I ever saw of this build - good to see you've been making steady progress.

Is your alum stuff just sandblasted? It has that nice matt silver finish that all my sandblasted parts have. I love the contrast on yours!

I too have been looking at 1JZ coil mounts... if you tie the cam cover's together its probably going to cause issues (leaks), i was thinking of using more of the center plugs in the head that have the threeded hole and mount them down the middle...

That is exactly what I'm going to do, I got four of the plugs for the center cover with the threads inside the hex head (the last plug in the head) and replaced all of the plugs with out the threaded hole. Then I'm going to attach the aluminum tray to them with spacers between the tray and Hex head plugs, Bolting it all together and then install the coils.

Sorry to throw this into your thread. But is it illegal to use a fuel cell instead of the stock gas tank for daily use? Is it recommended?
I'm not sure, I know in Michigan it is ok, A lot of the muscle car guys have them. The one I got is certified for the street and strip, I know Grant had one in his white supra.

That is cool, I travel back and forth from Brighton to Kalamazoo because of college, so I try to get as much work done on her when I'm home on the weekend. The engine wont be in the car for a while till I get all the body stuff done and paint. I'm right now waiting on Toyota to find out if they can still get me a Turbo A duct from Japan. If not I'll haft to locate one.
