Untraceable leak

So I bought the car from my friend not long ago, and it has an oil leak, it's been doing it for three years, he just never had the notion to fix it, he just kept adding oil, we were told it was the front main seal so I took it out and replaced it, guess what it sill leaks, and we have no idea where from, seems to be on the front of the engine to the leftish, about in line with the cps area but I've already checked that oring and it's ok, I've gata get this fixed, I'll post up some pics when I get home but I dint think they'll help much,

So far I know it's not the cam seals, frt main seal, oil pump seal, cps oring, but it comes from bhind the fan somewhere because it's getting into the fan and slinging everywhere but the most comcentration of oil on the underside of the hood is just abov the cps,

also it only seems to leak under boost


I feel like it may be either the oil pan gasket or something to do with the filter assy., or oil cooler lines, I'll be exploring those areas aa soon as it dries up a Lil here today

Save yourself alot of trouble and go to autozone and buy some UV dye. Put it in the oil run the car and shine the black light on the engine. It will show and should be pretty obvious. Also did you check the oil pump driveshaft seal?

Have you checked to make sure the cps in not leaking internally?

There is also a oil plug and the oil pressure sensor under the cps.

Yea I checked the op ds seal, it's fine, an autozone here doesn't have uv dye, already tried that, so back to the drawing board any more ideas ppl, I know some of you have had some weird leaks before, any idea is helpful

Have you very carefully power washed the engine and then drove and looked?

Could be the oil pan thats leaking and splashing oil everywhere.

See I thought that, and yes I'm aware of the oil press sensor, but why's this plug you refer to? And to be honest I'm afraid to wash it

Mine leaks through the internal seal of the CPS, and I need to fix it. I sometimes get a very little smoke after shutting it down. If I let it sit and idle with the hood up, sometimes I can see it burn a little off, but I never see it leaking. It is a mess down there.

Do you smell it burning off at times? Pull the 3 screws out of the cover, and there will be oil near the front at the bottom.

Just cover the afm, air filer, and the spark plug galley and you should be fine. Wait for it to cool a little bit and go after the parts that dont have much electrical and go around the area where the leak is. drive around and start looking for the leak.

Head gasket was change and no fipg was put on the front timing cover??

Not sure bout the fipg on ft time cover, it was done about 3years ago, the leak started rite after the head gasket job so possibly, how would I check or should I say where should I check for that?

Look at the front of the engine where the head meets the block.

Ok so yes fipg was put there? An thank you guru for that link, I'm still cleaning heavily on the engine but I feel like I'm getting closer

throw that dye in there.. and eventually it will start to show. check with a light every now and then. drive like normal

Just get new CPS o ring and cam seals. They may LOOK good, doesn't mean they work well though. They are easy and cheap to do.

Well I know for a fact that both are good because the area behind the cam gear rear cover (if that made sense) is the cleanest part of the engine, no exaduration, the last owners name was still on it in magic marker from the head job, and there's nothing on the side of the head under the cps, it's almost as clean

but I did order some of that dye today, as of now I'm still cleaning and painting and prettying up things while I wait for delivery

Just because you changed the main seal, doesn't mean it's fixed. The timing pulley could be worn where the seal seats, and it will still leak there. Did you carefully check the timing pulley? They make sleeves for that reason.

I'm completely unaware of what you're referring to, I inspected everything when it was off and it all looked good but if you'd like to elaborate that would be amazing

I sincerely hope I didn't sound smartasss in my previous post, but in exploring some other areas, just put of curiosity what are the odds of it being the large o ring behind the part of the oil filter housing that mates up to the block? Anyone ever had one come out of place or bust or anything?
