So I was waiting for a buddy to pickup a turbo rad fan from him and noticed a little oil smell...

I get out and the exhaust is white. smells like oil, looks like oil... must be oil! Wo0t.

I checked the oil and it was full... so I added a little anyway.

I then proceeded to go home (buddy never showed up) boosting, and just driving normal... every combo i could think of and i didn't see ANY white smoke at all.

What could cause that?

Its a fresh rebuilt head/block combo (JDM Engine) and the turbo that came with it. the turbo hasn't been touched but the engine has had a COMPLETE rebuid.

Well I had blown my oil seal in my old turbo. It started with a little smoke now and then, but after a little while I was smoking like a bastard. I mean I could not see ANYTHING behind me, I covered people in smoke. This then told me that my turbo was screwed. Had to get a new one.

But that is one possibilty. Also was the rebuild done professionally or did the people that sold you the engine just tell you that they had it rebuilt? Just a thought.

Hope this helps

p5150 from here helped me build the engine internals, i did everything else. I am very confident we did everything right.

I also broke it in correctly :)

bad turbo = white smoke... i did the same thing as post #2 lol

if ya wanna check ur turbo when she's warm rev her to bout 2k rpm and hold it then have someone watching the exhaust then drop the throttle, that's how i've diagnosed turbos previously :)
