Looking at buyin this '90 Auto Turbo and the guy said it makes a clicking noise whe you reverse. He said his mechanic said it was a U joint that is slightly worn out. Not a huge deal. Sound about right or what? FYI: car has 87K miles, and sat at one point for 2yrs in a garage. What do you guys think?

I tell all my customers to bring any car they are thinking of buying down to my shop to have me or my mechanics look it over before they buy it.

Better to know if its a good deal BEFORE you buy it.

Most people buy a car, then bring it in for the smog test, and thats when they find out they bought a bucket of junk, and its gonna cost alot of $$ to get it to pass the test.

Down here in the thing we call Florida, we aint got no smog or uppy uppy emission testing. all you need is $32.50 to register it. It can smoke like a BBQ grille going down the road, hell most tampa cars do. For tampa standards, this car is high class.

They do go bad. We had one car come in the shop with 2 bad ones, and the drive shaft had already been replaced 3 years earlier with one from the boneyard.

There aren't any grease fittings, so eventually they dry out.

Last week an '86 nissan truck came in with an engine dying problem, but the ujoints and center support bearing were shot. We had to get that fixed before we could drive it. I dropped the 2 piece shaft (like our cars) off at the driveshaft repair shop. $304, with my discount.

It was so bad they had to cut off the end and weld a new piece on so they could install a new joint. Then they had to balance everything ($65).

Sooo....if you hear a noise, or happen to be under the car for some other reason, check those joints, and replace before they cost you a whole bunch more.:icon_surp
