So i got to thinking i change my oil every 3-4k miles i use 0W 30 Castrol GTX full Syn
I've Heard from people that you could go 7-8k miles on this stuff but that got me to thinking about power lose.

So my question is what are your experience's with types and wieghts of oil and there Life/power span.

How badly can going 7k miles on a oil change really effect you power?
I assume worse for depending on the way you ran your car for those 7k miles.

Thanks for everyone's input and comments in advance

That's a terrible waste of quality PAO lubricant. You're not doing your engine or wallet any favors by changing it so often. I'm unsure why you'd think oil life would decrease power. If anything it'd slightly increase it due to reduced pumping losses caused by shearing.

hmm so how often should i change it running full syn.

And if i dont run synthetic and just run normal castrol gtx what kind of oil life should i look at getting.

Also i've always heard to do oil changes every 3k miles and so on and that old oil would cause power lose. I'm not doubint your right just something that has always been in my head.

could just be from all the crap you see on the bottle lol keeps hp power 50% longer blah blah stuff

I would highly recommend against 1) believing what you read on bottles and 2) listening to the voices in your head.

OCI generally depends on service conditions. In severe service (short trips, stop and go, etc) I'd change that particular oil (a Group IV by definition) every 5-6k. For normal service it can easily go 10K in a healthy engine.

The rest you'll have to study up on because I long ago gave up trying to teach people about this stuff. It's like shoveling sand against the tide...

We have an entire SME section dedicated to Motor Oils, Lubricants and Filtration. That's where you need to start:

http://www.supramania.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?108-Motor-Oil-Lubricants-amp-Filtration

You can start by reading here:

http://www.supramania.com/forums/sh...il-Basics-Reading-a-Data-Sheet-and-Synthetics

Then advance to these:

http://www.supramania.com/aehaas/

Read them ALL, start with Motor Oil 101 and advance from there.

Once you've read all of that, go to that section and ask questions.

^^ precisely why you should learn here over other certain supra sites...

There is more easily accessible info here than possibly anywhere else you'll find.

Spend some quality time in the subject matter expert section.
