I am not positive about your laws, but here in ct a car is not exempt from emissions until the vehicle is 25 years old.

Don't know about Washington but here in Oregon it isn't how old the car is. They have cut off years for cars and another for trucks. The years I think are around 1973 for cars and 1974 for trucks but I' not positive. I do know that from state to state the law varies as to having emission checks performed.

Was wondering how you know you have to get tested? I remember when I got my first car, a Toyota pickup I had to have it tested but hopefully the supra will never have to be....lol Yikes

You should get either a notice in the mail informing you that you have to get tested, OR they will tell you that in order to renew your registration you must get smogged. At least thats all you have to deal with. Here they check stupid shit like the height my exhaust is off the ground, if my headlights are properly aimed, my car even failed it's last inspection because there wasn't a visible shift pattern either on my knob or on the console!!
