My Dad acquired this car when the owner couldn't figure out why it was getting oil in the intercooler. He had it sitting at a shop for over a year and they never touched it so he got a really good deal on it.

The car is a 1980 Porsche 928. It as a 4.5L V-8 with a Kuhn Twin Turbo kit on it.

When I first started the car oil was pouring out of the exhaust:aigo:. I figured we would have to get new turbos, but after a little checking we found that the scavenger pump for the turbos was unplugged. After we figured that out and drained the intercooler the car stopped smoking altogether. We have replaced the plugs, cap, and rotor so far. The car idles great but when you drive it, it falls on its face. We are thinking it is a fuel issue so we have ordered a new fuel filter and will end up draining the tank.

The Turbo kit has twin k24 turbos with external waste gates set to 10psi. The car is supposed to produce 400hp and 420tq. It also has forged pistons and some other internal upgrades done. This should be a fun car once it’s running. The only problem is the cost of replacement parts.

I bet it will IJ. The previous owner took it to a bodyshop to have the fender fixed and he said it never ran right since. My guess is that they forgot to plug it in.

Just for the record i will never complain about the supra engine bay being a tight fit. It took forever to change the plugs that damn spider intake runners.

This is the engine out of the car. the car was owned by Kuhn himself, the one that designed the turbo kits.

I have never seen cylinders like this.

Apperently he sold it in 2005 with somewhere around 500 miles on the freshly rebuilt motor. He nicknamed the car Goldmember. We have a 3-ring binder with all kinds of info on the car.

The car sold for $8500 in 2005 and my dad picked it up for $800. Parts are high and hardto come by for this car so hopefully it is just the fuel filter and not the pump but we will see. Already had an offer for $1600 while we were trailing it home. I don't think we will get upside down in it too quick.

IJ to you building a space should be simple with all you had in the fat car. This car handles so nice. It has 118,xxx miles on the chassis and feels like brand new. No rattles or anything. It has a rear mounted transmission and some sort of four wheel steering. It weighs around 3200lb so not a light weight but should move with the engine.

IJ you should put that engine in it. I can't wait to follow another one of your builds. I have been a member since before this sight was hacked and i have always read your builds. don't stay away too long.

Here is the dyno graph from a 4.5L kuhn twin turbo porsche. It is either the car we have or his brothers car he built.

Fuuuuuu!!! I have a 928 too and I've always envisioned turbocharging it, I'm green with envy!! And I have never heard of that kit, aside from superchargers I did not know people turbo'd them.. Is that kit available to the public, or is custom?

Well worked on the car a little the other day. After my dad changed out the fuel filter and drained out the old fuel the car actually runs. Apparently the old fuel had gelled in the fuel filter. Well we were still having problems over 3000rpm when there was a load on the engine. I started checking the computer.
It runs a Split Second PSC1-009. ( http://www.splitsec.com/products/psc1/PSC1009.htm,http://www.splitsec.com/spike/Porsche-928-Turbocharged/spikePorsche928turbo.html )

There was a wire unplugged in the splicing harness. I plugged it back in and the car died at idle. I got it running again and the car started puffing out black smoke (running really rich). I unplugged the wire and the car started and idled perfect. Took it for a drive and the same problem occurred. When boost comes on the engine bucks like it is starving for fuel. I had my wife with me so I had her plug the wire back in while it was under load and WOW! The car just took off and pulled like crazy.

Seems to me either the previous owner screwed with the fuel map settings, they reset themselves since the battery was dead in the car, or the oxygen sensor is not reading correctly because of all the oil in the exhaust. So we are going to put in a new oxygen and see where we stand then.

I don't have any experience with this system so it will be a steep learning curve. Anybody used this system or have any experience. Uses R4 tuning software.
