I just replaced my stock turbo with a Garrett TO4e. I dont ever remember hearing my stock turbo. This Garrett sounds like I have a bad boost leak, cause everytime it kicks in I hear air, but the car runs good. Am I just hearing the turbo or could it be a boost leak? Would the car still run with a big boost leak? At first, I thought it was something wrong with my bov. Does anyone have any suggestions with this? How do you test for boost leaks? Thanks.:1zhelp:

you just might be hearing the turbo? how much boost are you running? is it the stock gauge or aftermarket? ive heard of cars still running with a boost leak, just not a good idea though.

get some sound clips or maybe a video.

I had the same hks intake on it that I had on my stock turbo. I just put on a lexus afm with a cone filter today. I dont think that it is TOO loud for me, I just want to make sure that there isnt something wrong. I'm way too cautious I guess. How do you do a test for boost leaks? thanks.

Scottie nailed it: There is no such thing ;)

Mine was a lot louder when I was running the K&N filtercharger so yes, the filter makes a difference. The first time I heard it under full boost I had to have the grin surgically removed ;)

Just for the record, I don't think my turbo is too loud. I just didn't think that it sounded RIGHT. It's probably the larger turbo. With the stock turbo I would only hear the bov when it released the air. Now I hear air continuously while the turbo is spooling. I hope that it isn't anything wrong, but I always feel better when I get comfirmation.
Does anyone know any links to how to check for boost leaks? Thanks people.

If you can hit full boost at all without blowing smoke I'm sure you don't haev a boost leak. Remember your CT26 most likely had stock dp and maybe intake, now that stuff is open and you can hear much better.

When I put my HKS SMF intake on mine I noticed the stock recirculation valve when I let off the gas. After I got my 3" exhaust I noticed it sounded like a hissing noise. After I put my car in the shop for the head gasket replacement the guys at TVR complimentararily (SP?) shimmed my wastegate. Now it hisses until a certain PSI and then it whistles. All with the stock CT26. It would be good if you could get some sound clips though, suprahero.

I also have the HKS SMF and get the same 'air leak' sound between ~0-4psi(on the stock gauge) at partial throttle. I didn't notice it until after I installed my Forge Motorsports BPV, so maybe I just need to change the spring in it(comes with 4 different springs), but I'd like to see if it's 'normal' to hear the noise or if it really is the spring.

Sorry, Supra90turbo, I dont plan on selling it anytime soon. My car does not smoke at full boost or any other time for that matter. I'm hoping to get it tuned Friday or maybe monday. I'm going to try and record it with a small digital camera that I have although I've never recorded anything with it before. Someone will then have to tell me how to upload it on here. I'll worry about that when I have it recorded. I'm going to record it on the dyno. I'm shooting for 300, but I bet it's more like 260. lol.

It could be the engine breathing in air through the filter. When I was under the hood with the car running, I revved the engine up just a tad and I heard the wheezing from the filter.
