ok so this is about ebay turbos..... as i have heard all the shit about them, i have heard some good things about them, and it has never been really told why they are so shitty. How much could be wrong with the housings and whatnot? are they balanced shitty, put together poorly?

sooooo, looking at this
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/NEVE...tegoryZ33742QQihZ005QQitemZ150052972820QQrdZ1
this turbo has pretty good specs, and if functioning properly IMO it could see say 600hp.

so my thought is the turbo is only 250$... what if you bought it and sent it straight to get rebuilt with new bearings, seals, etc. you could also get it balanced, ported, and polished, all this adds up to about 400$...... now you have a turbo that is nice and pretty, and will work great for.... 250$ + 400$ = 650$
seems like a pretty good deal huh?

i dunno its just a thought

There was a post about a year ago, and i think someone bought one and took it apart only to find it held together with a household glue.

I could be wrong. Some were found to be very functional and see 25k+ miles on them without problems!

another ebay auction had one with a housing made out of plastic, painted silver on the outside. no lie. the buyer broke it open to find a cream colored plastic on the inside with a shitty paint job on the outside.

yea, there was a honda-tech thread showing them held together by glue.

However, I have a friend that was running an ebay turbo on his LS B18, and it was very fast... The turbo never smoked.
Keep in mind it was never run at over 14 Psi, afterall it is a stock honda motor.
He now started to run a larger ebay turbo, now at 8 Psi, and it is still going strong

Neither have failed or had any seal issues.

Ummm Yeah. :biglaugh:

The HOUSING was held together with glue. I jsut remember some of them being a great budget buy, and some being a nice paper weight.

well no one mentioned this before but that "glue thing" was actually a big scandal made by a few select people in an attempt to boycott those turbos. SS autochrome has never had any issue. My friend actually bought a turbo from them in one of the earliest stages of their coimpany. It was a good condition turbo, spun freely. He put it on his car ever since. 30,000kms later and its still the same condition as before. no shaft play. You can repalce the bearings if you want, my friend didn't and he is successful.
