Go to search type in rebuild. There is now 3 threads with almost the same name. Go back a few pages, it called "ct26 rebuild". Also I got mine off your Ebay for 200Au delivered. It was sweet.

Tell us how you made out, Mk3 TurboS.
One of the things I want to see on this forum is info for us to rebuild our own turbos. They really are not so complex. You just have to do things the right way, just like building anything really. I will provide the answer to the one question I had in the following thread soon (about putting back together if nothing was marked, as the one shop took it apart, those dubmbells). And I think I can ask 4 reputable sources too;)

Is this the thread you are talking about?

If not, link me.

Edit: just found it

All that turbo rebuild info is great, if you have gobs of time, and extreme attention to detail on your side. But, if you are like most of us, you don't, or, would rather leave precision work like that to the experts! I had the opportunity to watch my 57 trim CT being built, start to finish. The builder balanced the compressor and exhaust wheels way beyond the stock specs. It is an intensive exersise, I can assure you! He also clipped my exhaust wheel 10 degree's. The machine work would probably cost you $100.00-$200.00 alone, never mind the time you spend doing it. For $399.99 + s/h you can get a freshly re-built stock CT from this guy; Kent:www.turbochargersystems.com. He sells on E-Bay also, and will do CT up-grades on request. The upgrades are more $ of course, but still reasonable. He is very easy to deal with, and his attention to detail is second to none! This is a much better bet, than trying it yourself! Trust me on that one! Some things are better left to the experts, and this is one of those things. As for how my turbo performs, stay tuned. I still haven't installed it and tuned the car, but that is all happening next week. I'm not expecting miracles, because it is a CT still, however, I will have several supporting mods/fuel and DDP going at the same time, so I do expect some seriously sore face muscles (from grinning!) this time next weekend. I can't wait! :wiggle: :biggrinbo

Peace

I wasn't saying you weren't, just that most people on the forum aren't really up to that kind of tedious job. I don't want you to think I doubt your abilities! I am surprised :icon_surp that the machine work was that cheap. Now days, it doesn,t seem like you can get anything done for less than the going hourly repair rate of $65.00-$70.00 per hour! I officially stand corrected! :icon_redf

I though that was the whole purpose of this forum really: to do things yourself. Info for do-it-yourselfers. Well that is the reason why I am here, to learn and give info based on my findings anyways.

At times I have wondered why others drive this car, or why others are on the forums. I guess people see things differently...I wonder if I am the rarity in all this.

Not trying at all to get you going, but just some opinions I have.

No, I don't think that you are a rarity, but more the norm. There are alot of things that I will do myself on my Supra too. My car is a daily driver though, and needs to be running all the time, so it's a little different for me than someone who has one for a weekend warrior. Finding a competent person/ machine shop that will balance turbo's beyond the stock spec's, is easier said than done, depending on where you live. Personally, I would rather have a turbo builder do the whole thing, and then install it myself. That way, it's warrantied, and you don't have to worry about it flying apart, :eek3: and being a total loss.

I'm not a weekend warrior at all. I'm a all week warrior. If somethings wrong I fix it. My car is my only means of transport (I rented a car for 4 days while it was down). I knew my turbo seals were gone so I reasearched (thanks to tony) bought the Turbo kit off EBAY and had a crack. I had NEVER even held a turbo before that. I have had lots of experiance with cars. In my baby book my first word was actually "car" (dad was so proud). But to me the satisfaction of doing something yourself is worth it. As for rebuilding a turbo being difficult its not. Its actually very simple. I'm not saying my turbo's not going to fly apart tomorrow (fingers crossed) but it all went together perfect, I marked it and the car has stopped blowing oil and smoke out the tail pipe. For $150 to me thats awsome to others its a risk not worth taking.
