Hey all I just have a turbo question.. I've been looking at turbos for a decent amount of time between the older "T" design and the Garrett "GT" models.. My question is most people say that the newer GT turbo spool totally different then the older T designs. Is that true? If so I'm not 100% sure if I understand.. So say if an older T series has for example a 1.05 a/r what would it be conpairable to in a GT series?
Thanks ken

Hmmm good question, IDK know. Jet jock may or ck anderson or even suprahero. You could call garret and ask them or talk to SP or someone who deals with turbo's 24/7.

Sorry I couldn't help

I don't have any experience with either a T series or a GT. But I've always wondered the same thing. I have yet seen any dyno, or track times to back up the claim that GT series are better. But then I would have to experience both turbos myself to make a good judgement. Has anyone with a GT series dethroned the top dog 7m guys here yet?

Big A, what differences have you noticed? Better spool time. Top end power? What did the butt dyno tell you?

you can't apply the "old" way of thinking about housing A/R, wheel size, etc. to the GT series. the T series was designed in the '60s and '70s.....GT series was designed in the '90s. HUGE steps in technology (aerodynamics, construction, etc.). the GT series will make more power and spool faster than a similarly spec'd T series...

don't forget there's a TON more that goes into specing out a turbo other than housing A/R....

The answer your looking for is right above.

Never try to compare a t series to a gt series spec for spec. A smaller gt will spool faster, make more power, last longer, run cooler, than a larger t- series.

The dyno sheet can't show you how it feels driving it around under normal conditions. Same thing with peak output power numbers. It's not really about peak power because any turbo can do that if large enough, but getting a better combination of driveability and peak power is what the gt turbos seem to be able to do. I can't say that I ever had a t series but the 62-1 is similar.

For the people running either turbo could you please say what RPM your getting boost at and what type the turbo is?
Thanks Ken
