turbo noise?

I can go hard enough to spool the turbo up, but not full on, and the motor sounds perfectly normal. But if I really mash it, I get the same spool up, but the motor is making some weird loud scraping/shreiking noise. What does a turbo sound like when dying?
#2) Can I replace the turbo with a 57 trim without doing anything else?
