I've got a 87 N/A with aftermaket, intake, exhaust and a few other minor mods and I was wondering if anyone knows what would I gain (if anything) by replacing my n/a injectors with turbo injectors? Or would it just run rich and burn more gas?
I just happen to have a set of the turbo injectors laying around. I know that they are low impedence but as I understand it so are the n/a injectors untill 1989. It should just be plug and play in my 87 right? I'd love to hear from anyone who has any first hand knowledge of this and get their thoughts. :icon_conf

Unless you have Major intake upgrades, I.E. cams, throttle bodie, MAF, etc... then they will make you run lean. Fuel injectors rarely increase performance, they mearly puch the threshold of performace further. For instance the stock 440s on turbo cars are good for 400 hp, but we upgrade to 550s when we only make 300 hp. Just because 550s CAN make 500 hp doesnt mean they will, they only allow you to. so if you are running lean because the stock NA injectors aren't big enough, then the 440s will solve the problem. but if you are no where near 300 whp (you are no where near 300 whp) then they will not be needed.

if your 87 na is actually an 86.5 like mine you should already have the injector resistor pack. and if that's the case using the turbo 440's will actually make your car run rich---- since they are bigger. my suggestion would be to actually run a fuel pressure reg. to adjust this even after your ct26 swap. this is what i did seeing as how the n/a ecu is not fuel mapped to run the bigger injectors and you will be dumping massive amounts of fuel in your car while not on boost. oooorrrr, you could get an saf-c to tune down the injectors on the lowest part of the rev range and the injectors will do the rest while on boost.

ok so i am doing the turbo on a NA motor I want the added safety of fuel so i could use the turbo injectors and put a fpr and a SAFC in and adjust tune them in correct

All 86.5-88 N/A's had low impedance injectors and had the resistor pack. :)

im trying the same thing but i have an 89+. would anyone know how to wire an injector resistor pack to the 89+ na electronics because the NA injectors are high impedance

Your're turning your NA into a turbo, as opposed to doin a swap? I didn't know that was an option. How much does something like that cost? I love the condition my NA motor is in and would be extreamly hard pressed to find a used turbo with as low miles or in as good of condition as my NA, so I'd love to add turbo if that's possible.

Everything bolts up, you just don't have the oil feed and return holes for the turbo. So you have to use custom oil lines.

you also dont have the oil squirters. But Ive read on this forum that they are not necessarily needed. Personally if toyota made the gte with them, then I would think they would be important.
