Turbo drips oil but not from return lines

I picked up the JDM ct thats been gracing the floor of my storeroom for about 4 months and I realized that oil was dripping from the compresser inlet and exhaust outlet. Is this normal at all or does this mean i can throw out using it? Usually i expect that since the center cartridge is sealed that it wouldn't leak oil from there.
TIA- John

I'm still trying to figure out how, if at all, i can delete the general section thread. I realized that it is likely the topic is better posted here than there but it doesnt matter because no one can seem to say yes or no. I just didnt want to go out and swap them if someone knew for sure this condition was bad either by previous experience or more knowledge. The moderators can delete both anyway since the only answer I've got is to slap it on and see if it works and I'm out of daylight and patience with the car.

sorry chief but sounds like that turbo maybe cooked, however it is possible that it simply seeped out over time (im guess you stored the turbo on end) a little oil in the inlet is normal if you have the stock ventilation system.

but yea double posting is a no-no but dont sweat it. your still a rookie ;) your allowed to make mistakes as we all have before.

best bet is to (as correctly stated) slap it on, let some of the oil burn off and keep your fingers crossed. make sure you prime it correctly!

Well I poured some in the return line and it slowly ran out the compressor outlet and the exhaust inlet. So its not lookin good. I was just trying to see if I could definitively prove my 62-1 ct was bad. I have a problem where when I rev it to 2000 and hold it then let of, a few seconds later a nice cloud of smoke puffs out then it stops. It doesn't smoke when i rev it and it doesn't smoke after the puff.:3d_frown: I figure on getting a lightning from the boys at MDC but I'm gonna try this first....its halfway done now neway. I'll let yall know if i have to charge the state for mosquito fogging.:biglaugh: If the turbo is bad I'll just have to drive my Integra till i get the new turbo.

PS- I rarely visit the forums anymore and I never was on enough to really learn all the etiquette. I visit from time to time but i haven't been active in a couple years. I have no intention of offending anyone...well except when i called the EVO a civic with a kit but comeon....its gorram rally car...calling it a sprorts car is like calling a H1 a recreational offroad vehical. Peace out yo

update....the 62-1 is off and has about 1/8 of an inch of front-rear shaft play.......:aigo: so I think it's bad. The stocker from the JDM motor has 0 shaft play and spins smooth by hand but it drips oil like the center section never had seals. So I think it's time I looked at options. I posted (once i might add) about possibilities for turbo's and its lookin like either a JT56 lightning or the BOSS 550 in the 54 trim flavor from 935 motorsports.

Yeah, theres a post about a lighting being for sale from MDC but I'm kinda scared to go to an oil-only turbo. I kinda like the oil and coolant cooling system for longevity since I can afford to do this every 4 years like I have been. I talked to Jon at MDC already about rebuilding the one I have but with the shaft play and the realistic longevity now that ive been seeing 15+ psi I think I'm going to get a new turbo instead. I still like the boss 550 but I'm open to suggestions or knowledge about personal experience with these models.

damn, then I may have to rethink my options. Although since the car is already down I may go with whats readily available. Anybody got personal experience with the lightning to give perspective.....Malloy and 67mm of BOSS turbine is not a good reference point for what I want....well what I need/can afford in a turbo. Also the boss is only 1195 at 935 motorsports...thats 200 less than the lightning and its already cooled by both.
