After comparing the Turbonetics ballbearing turbo to the Garrett ball bearing turbos I have decided I like the Garrett technology better.

I am in the planning stages of my upgrade.

as I see it I have three options.

1. Go the stock hybridr route, not crazy about this one, get steel turbines but without BB's

2. Go with uprated single, maybey a GT30 with an AR ratio of .82 to 1.06

3. Go with custom twin system, maybey GT25 with an AR ratio of .62

The single may be easyer since manifolds are availible, but I would like to Keep low end response.

Any thoughts, suggestions?

I just talked with a very knowledgeable turbo guy; his company had a NSX take an open dyno slot at the Las Vegas Supra meet and put down about 830 HP. He was here in Huntsville tuning a very tricked out Civic drag car. I asked him about a turbo suitable for the 1JZ and he recommend the HKS GT3240 I told him I autocrossed and he said I would be happy with the HKS GT3037S 56T .61 or .73

HKS GT3037S - 450/480 PS Output

COMPRESSOR:
-Wheel- 52/56 Trims - 55.0/57.0 Inducers / 76.2 Major
-Housing- 100 Inlet / 50 Outlet - 0.60 A/R
TURBINE:
-Wheel- 84 Trim - 60.0 Major / 55.0 Exducer
-Housing- GT25 inlet / External GT30 outlet; 0.61, 0.73, 0.87, 1.01, 1.12 A/R

HKS GT3240 - 580 PS Output

COMPRESSOR:
-Wheel- 54 Trim - 60.3 Inducer / 82.0 Major
-Housing- 100 Inlet / 60 Outlet - 0.60 A/R
TURBINE:
-Wheel- 84 Trim - 54.0 Major / 58.7 Exducer
-Housing- GT25 inlet / External GT30 outlet - 0.87 A/R

That 3037S is damn near the EXACT same thing I have... I love it, spools decently quick, hits hard and holds allll the way to redline. Previous owner slapped a GT30R frontside, so that's why it's ALMOST exactly like that... I think for your needs you would like this.

My twin GT28R setup spools up quicker than Turbo Drifters single GT3037 setup. He had the .63 a/r housing which is great. The new GT turbos are so great and efficiant, I dont know why people would go with the old t3 or t4 style turbo's when these cost a fraction more.

My turbo's have the .64 a/r t25 type housing, they spool up very fast, almost to fast. I when I hammer it I get wheel spin in third gear, just by powering into it, not poping the clutch. I have 10 psi at about 3000 rpm and full 20 psi at about 3700-3800 rpm, but i have a slight surging problem. I may swap the housings to the .84 and try that. I think with twin GT28RS's you would see full boost at about 4000 and can make like 650 + hp.

I am making the twin manifolds now, so let me know if you want a pair. They are 316 thick wall stainless steel.
