i had my turbo rebuilt, i installed it and when i boost it starts whining. is this death whine? there is no shaft play what so ever.....does the turbo need to be broken in?
No, a turbocharger does not need to be broken in the way you are thinking.
It does, however, need to be primed with oil before using it.
Before assembling it, it is suggested that you put oil in it.
Then before starting the car, it is also necessary to crank the engine over a couple of times to get oil through the turbo, instead of having its rotating assembly spin unlubed.
