So I have a quick question how important is the CT26 to exhaust manifold brace/stay (part number 17118). Can the car be ran without it or would it just cause problems. I am not trying to be cheap but am having a hard time finding one I posted in the wanted section 2 weeks ago with no replies and went to Toyota where I was told that they are no longer available. So am I stuck until I find one? Thanks for any help.

To deflect the flames that are sure to strike down anyone who dares remove a part that was put there "by Toyota, and for a reason" I'm going to say YES the brace is necessary. If i was to answer personally however, i would say no you don't need it with a stock CT26, because they don't weigh much, and your studs are probably already wrecked after 20+ years of 1200* heat cycles.

Im running a stock CT26 with no braces... about 1700 miles after my rebuild & still going. In fact i just bought braces from Boostcraver couple days ago. Just waiting for them to arrive & figure out where they go. I couldn't possibly hurt to have them on?

Without the braces, I had to keep retorquing the nuts that held the turbo to the manifold. My car had NONE of the braces when I bought it, but I sourced all of them.

When I bought mine it was missing the top brace... 3 studs on EM were stripped... IMO for longevity for sure use them. I am not sure which one you are missing, but I could not find the top one, so I just built one from, IIRC 1/8 stock 1" in width. Even though the CT26 is not that heavy, you are also dealing with the leverage from the EM point of contact on the head, plus the weight of the EM itself already hanging on the studs and then depending on the cold air intake, you may also have the weight of all that attached to the turbo.

Pretty sure I have these brackets if anyone actually wants them and isn't being sarcastic? PM me and I can add them to my FS thread.

7m exhaust studs need all the help they can get.
If you think your car is fine without them, your itching to learn a lesson the hard way. Lets just say they're recommended.

You're totally screwed because, you know, a part like that is impossible to fabricate...

yeah for sure... it is a sad sad situation... probably better just to go without them... after-all who needs braces, brackets, EGR valves, pcv systems, fuel dampeners... I think Mr Toyoda just wanted to make it look more complicated so that he could sell it for more money:icon_bigg

There were a set of a bunch of braces stock.

I run both the stock big metal bars on both intake and exhaust without any problems.

Just because someone says its ok, doesn't mean that the heavy turbo system shouldn't be supported. Its like saying a gt40+ doesnt need any support at all and it weighs way more than stock....
