pfft. automatics take the fun out of driving. (that's definatly an opinion based answer. :)) will, for what it's worth, i've still got the w58 in my turboswapped 86.5, and i'm over 300rwhp, and have a lead foot. i have no problems with it. ;)

i've also got an r154 sitting in my garage incase something DOES happen!

and to directly answer the question: i'd much rather have a manual n/a tranny (w58) over a turbo auto tranny.

and if you shift fast enough, you wont have enough boost dropoff between shifts to really make a difference. learn to drive! :) (not saying i can do it, but it's definately an art of driving the manual transmission, one that i'd like to master 100%)

you can barely hear my BOV when i shift, it BARELY opens, if at all...

Shaeff, no matter how fast anyone can shift, it'll never be faster than an auto. I do agree that auto's take the fun out of driving, but the boost dropoff is a big issue for racing.

I can't really say much because I just bought a turbo/auto but I'd like to throw a 5-speed in it...lil harder to get sideways in an auto :(

I personally am looking for a 5spd NA that I can convert to turbo eventually.
Of course, I have my Turbo "fix". Albeit on jackstands, it's still there and will get me in plenty of trouble when it runs. May as well get a semi-reliable Supra for the time being.

If you're Jonesin' for a Turbo, go with the Slushbox.

Which one are you more addicted to, the rush of boost ( turbo, duh) or the driving experience(5-speed).

If you can’t have both then I personally go with the N/A 5-speed. The 7mge has a good amount of torque, and is still a very fun motor to drive if you have the 5-speed on it. I know I enjoyed it when I test drove one. It's is a good starting point, just go turbo as soon as you can.

I have had N/A manual, swap to turbo and then bought a turbo automatic. I am personally am a big fan of the auto turbo now. The manual is just asking to roast tires and do more stupid stuff. I didnt think I would like the auto at first but it turns out that I really enjoy it.

oh, i know that for sure! :) i'm not in any way saying that i or anyone else can shift faster than an automatic, i'm just saying that there's more skill to driving a manual car. i'm all about having complete control over the car at every given second i'm driving. i hate automatics. i'll never own an automatic sports/sporty car. it takes the fun out of it for ME.

my dad's got a shift kit in his '70 chevelle malibu with a 350ci and some mild upgrades. under normal driving conditions it'll chirp the tires because the shift kit in the auto tranny hits so hard. i love it, but still would rather drive a manual. :)

Yeh, my dad owned 5 chevelles back in the day. 68-72. His baby was the 70. 396 factory punched to a 402, custom built carb...way too much shit to list. Dyno'd at almost 800whp.

I agree, driving an auto is going to take some getting use to as far as not having control of it. I love being able to kick 3rd at 60 and take off :) [my truck is a 5-spd]. I'll miss it...*whispers*until I do a 5-spd swap hehe*/whisper*
