i was wondering if anyone on here has bought catch screens for there turbo setups? when i worked on big diesel engines they always had screens somewhere in the IC piping before the IC. sometiems right on the turbo. i wasnt sure if anyone in here has ran those. i know they are good as far as catching debris if your turbo goes out so that nothing goes into your IC or motor for that matter. just a question, i know you can get them for big trucks. but most of those run atleast 3.5-4" IC piping lol.

Wow thats the first time I've heard of a catch screen being used for a turbo/ic setup.

If you have a good filter (ie wix, apexi ... ) you shouldn't have a problem with stuff hitting the turbine's blades when its spinning at 100k+ rpms.

Ive been searching too, havent found a single person with one. I was thinking put one on the throttle body. My IC is cheap and i use good clean filters, but what if the turbo fails? Id rather have a screwed up turbo than a motor with pieces of metal being exploded inside the cylinder. It would be quick and easy to clean too since its right on top.

It seems to me like if the turbo were to explode, with enough force to break small bits and send them flying into the intake, you're gonna need a pretty strong screen to stop that

The only way your turbo would ever explode are:

Stuck close BOV - when you let off the gas the hot side is spinning one way and the charged air in the intake is gonna spin it the other way, your turbine's shaft will snap from surge

Poor quality air filter - dirt gets past the air filter, gets into the bearings, starts sanding the center shaft down, turbine starts showing play, one day you are boosting and the turbine's blades catches the housing; something large enough gets past the filter and impacts the blades as they are spinning at 100k+ rpms.

Poor lubrication - turbine just seizes up for no particular reason ...

Improper cool down - oil cokes up inside the turbo cause you didn't let it cool down properly

Improper warm up - the turbine starts showing play cause you didn't allow the turbo to get fully lubed before taking off/boosting

These are the things you should really worry about.

i have never heard of them being a restriction. as long as you have the right size IC pipes for your setup. i wont get into detail on it b/c it been explained enough times. but the speed as which the air goes through your pipes isnt a factor. if you have enough volume then its not gonna make a difference. i have seen screens made out of titanium and some other metal mesh. they work well too. if i can find some pics on here of them on trucks i will show you all.

YOu don't need a catch screen. You already have one, the intercooler. If your turbo explodes, everything is going to get stuck in the intercooler.

Its not some ricer mesh screen, its made of a good strong quality. Even if the turbo exploded it would have to make it all the way through the intercooler still with enough force to blow through there hit past a titanium screen...
