So I'm thinking of getting a supra turbo targa 5 speed for 1200, but it needs a tune up, and I was thinking of what it would consist of. I was thinking like plugs and plug wires
cap & rotor
MHG and ARP bolts
new belts
brakes
anything else?
i'll have about 3000 to fix/mod stuff.

oh I didnt know they had coils.. guess its a good thing I asked... The guy who owns it said he's done all is of this: new wire hareness, throttleposition sensor, air intake sensor, wide band o2sensor, new timing belt, cam oil seals, crank seals.had the head re torqued at the dealer with the cam seals and brand new injectors seals.

he said its been sitting for at least 3 years. so I dont know what else to check out.

If its been sitting for 3 years the first thing I would do is change all the belts, the oil and filter, drain the fuel out the tank and put fresh fuel in. Then when it comes to starting it i would pull the efi fuse and crank it over for about 20 seconds to build some oil pressure. I might even be tempted to put a little bit of oil down each cylinder and turn it over by hand first.

Just that it had been sitting for so long so I thought, well if its been sitting it'll need some type of tune up. But I didnt know where to start. The owner said he'd started it the other day and said it sounded kind of off, "maybe a pulley" so now I'm thinkin its getting to a whole different set of problems...

Go down there and check it out and start it up. And no offense, but if you didn't know that the turbo didn't have a dizzy you should probably take a mechanic along with you. Definitely get it started and definitely check for the chocolate milk in the overflow.

none taken. Yeah lucky for me my gf dad is a mechanic (bouns=cheap parts & 0 cost for labor :D)
he said when he's got a day off he'll go up and check it out with me. When I first saw it i thought i hit the jackpot... Now i'm getting a little nervous. I just keep reminding myself that the car is as old as I am so it'll take some amount of work. What does it mean if there's "chocolate milk" in the overflow? legendary bhg? or something totally different?
this is pretty much the best supra site i've ever found..ever. People aren't DB's here.
Thanks for the help guys... HOPEFULLY someone buys my truck soon so I can get me a mk3 by the weekend.
thanks again.

did you find it on craigslist list? if so post up the link.

either way, as long as it starts, and doesnt sound really bad, i'd buy it. but will probably need some work done.... the good running supras are NEVER for sale....
