maximum boost by corky bell

best book ever for the layman as far as understanding turbo's

A/R can be looked at as a "size"

If the exhaust A/R is too large, than it will spool up slowly but have a pretty good top end on it. Too small, then it will spool quickly but have little top end.

Compressor A/R is similar with regard to the volume of air it can move.

The trim is an indication of the size of the compressor wheel. The larger the wheel, the more work is required from the exhaust turbine but the more air it can move, and vice versa.

a1/r1 = a2/r2 = a3/r3 and so on. nevermind my crappy a$$ drawing. imagine that the A's are getting bigger like a real turbo. and that book is awsome. amazon has it.

thanks for the advice. so the smaller the trim, the faster the spool but the lower the top-end power? and as for A/R, larger the size, slower the spoolup but higher top-end?

yes. big turbos (large trim) flow lots of air. large A/R's have mad top end yo but are slow to spool. from what i understand the compressor is the lightest part of the turbo, so a large compressor has a minimal effect on spool time. the thing that affects spool is the A/R. small A/R's choke you engine. alright i'm going to bed. goodnight all.

Jon at MDC put it best. the bigger the wheels the more power and the
smaller the wheels the less lag. It's all about size.

want 350-400rwhp get a 56mm upgraded CT-26 (give or take)
want 400-450rwhp get a 56mm T04E turbo (give or take)
want 450-550rwhp get a 58mm T04E with a P-Trim exhaust (gove or take)
Want 550+ get a T-66

(and if you want one of the turbos listed above contact me and I'll
help you find one.)

now is that a gain from 230-350 hp by bolting on a different turbo?

and anyone have opinions on the t3/t4 hybrid turbos by turbonetics?

With supporting mods...fuel, intercooler, exhaust, etc :naughty:

Donno about the Turbonetics, but I have a SP61 and it's a T3/T4 hybrid. Spools very quickly to 20 psi...good for the 500 HP range.

The turbonetics turbos are ok, but they cheaped out with some of the parts.
I'd much rather buy a better quality turbo and spend a little more.

And yes with the supporting mods, just a turbo change means the power
levels listed above.

You can achive that with an upgraded ct-26 a 57 trim should be enough, like someone else mentioned earlier in this thread do you have the fuel and exhaust upgrades to go with the turbo??

Its not as big as you can go on a CT but its as big as you need to go for 350 RWHP, and spool should be almost the same as for a stock CT. You can get an upgrade for $475 if you send in your core.
