Trashed Interior- should I search for replacements, or get it redone?

Hi guys!

So, I've got a bunch of additional restoration work to do on my '87, but I'm running into a few snags.

My Supra has blue interior, and most of it looks like the previous owner took a rake to it. The interior door panels are chewed up, the dash is cracked... About the only part of the interior that still looks decent is the armrest.

I've been looking around for MK3s with blue interior to steal parts from- but I'm finding they're really hard to come by! One entered a local wrecking yard chain out here called Pick n' pull, and the door panels were taken within 3 days. They were gone before I could get out to grab them.

Does anyone have any idea what it would cost to have someone re-wrap the doors and dash?

If the vinyl is split, you need to find a another dash and doorpanel. If it is the cloth/leather insert on the doorpanel, you can recover that.

The vinyl is split in both cases, but I've heard of shops that are able to strip off the vinyl, and wrap panels with new. It won't look like stock, but it'll look a hell of a lot better then it does now.

Check ebay. Alot of times you can find things there where people are parting out a car. Also you can start a "need to buy thread" and someone may have what you are looking for.

It would look better and be cheaper to find replacements. Worse case is the dash that may cost more to ship than what the acutal dash sells for. The MKIII dash doesnt really have a "pad" like most cars. It is one big piece and the vinyl is molded. I doubt an interior shop could do much with it and I dont think it would look good.

I covered mine in a tweed like material. The main advantage to this however, is that you'll be able to fiberglass the dash and get rid of the curling and lumps above the gauge cluster and vents that happen to every A70. Nothing makes the interior look more ghetto than a gurney flap in front of your face.

Can you post pics. I want to see this recovered dash. Did you recover the console to match?

This is exactly why I specifically wanted to see about having the dash rewrapped. I've found an interior restoration shop out here that sounds pretty good, but I haven't called to ask for a quote yet.

I would definitely be interested- but only in the front seats. What kind of condition are they in? Fairfield isn't too far a drive from here.

Too bad you're so far away. I have an 87 parts car with a full blue interior that is in damn good shape.

They're dusty from being in the garage for a few years. Nothing a 5 star car wash couldn't take care of. The only bad thing is that the seams came loose on the passenger seat and need to be stitched back together. I just tucked it away and you could barely notice it. The indents are just from where the rear seats were sitting on them.
