I have to vent. I see so many pics of cars at meets with a f... stick or something holding the hood up. For goodness sakes take some pride in your car. That would be like the first thing I would fix!

I like the hood shocks, don't have to hold hood up while you pull the support up and put it in place.

Plus you'll look like a badass when you replace them, then next time you pop your hood, you just reach under, release it and let go. The hood will practically open itself.

i wish i could still do that. my hood struts are dying. i'm replacing the hood and hatch struts when the hood struts die. hatch struts are already dead.

Yall think the hood is heavy? My hatch struts are non-existent and it's like bench pressing 100lb just to open the damn thing. What sucks is you have practically disassemble the interior to replace them. They are not high on the priority list but they will be replaced. Luckily my hood struts are ok for now.

Last I checked I could buy the hood struts for under $19 at my local O'Reilley's. We have their regional warehouse in town, so I never have a problem getting them. I could probably get them shipped to anybody that can't find them for about $50 shipped. That's assuming they haven't gone up too much, plus shipping, and $2-3 for my gas chasing them down. And you wouldn't ever have to leave the house.

Ken, You are right about the hatch for sure. They are a bitch to change, and it is a heavy hatch. But, here is a little tip, until you get ready to do that job. Unhook your retractable hatch cover from the hatch! Some struts still will work without that extra little pull on them. But, if you do that, be careful under there. It will work for a while, but you can't trust it to stay forever.

That little tip helped with my 85 Celica I had but this one it doesn't matter. They are completely gone. I use a 2x4 to prop it open but it still makes me very nervous. If that hatch were to fall, it could cause some serious injuries or death, seriously.

same goes for the hood. haha my hood struts are gone, and my friend and i were takin a look under there to find an oil leak while using his vice grips to hold the it up. while i was standing there like a dipshit, it fell and hit me right in the top of the dome. if it would've been like 2 inches to the left, the latch part probably would've split my head open or somethin.:nono:

I really highly doubt they were better quality then new OEM units. I question anyone who thinks auto parts store stuff is better then real OEM stuff.
