I was wondering if there was any other five speed transmission that can fit my 7mgte. I am going for 400hp after rebuild. I am going 400hp with a fresh rebuild, .040 over ,balanced crank ,polished mains, arp studs, titan gasket, clevites all around, injectors, maft pro, 3 inch full exhaust, header, holset hx series turbo, external gate,16 lbs of boost, full intercooler piping 2.5 intercooler 24x12x3. Thats the list for 400 now i need a tranny to replace my auto just wanted ideas on what to use. If i can use a stock one which cars come with them r154 or the w58. Any help is appreciated.

IJ. has one of the Tremek tranyies, I think it may be a TKO, or 500, or something like that. PM him and he may help you out on the details of how he got it to work. Or you may be able to google it, but it might have been in his rebuild thread...:dunno:

The factory auto, as it sits, doesn't have a great reputation for handling power levels significantly over stock. But as NickM alluded to, you can make improvements to the auto so that it handles elevated power levels better. Try some search queries on the auto trans, there should be tons out there.

The R154 is the best choice IMO for a 5-speed as it's readily available and relatively inexpensive. Very solid as well. Try some searching on that as well (include 'thrust bearing' as a search item too).

Hey, if you can mod the auto tranny to cope with the increase power then keep it cause it would be FUN!:naughty:
