I got my wifes car running FINALLY, but the tranny is still slipping between first and second. It's not the transmission, because I bought another one and it's doing the same thing. I think it's something that tells it when to shift. Could it be the ecu or something else? I just find it hard to believe that two different transmissions would have the exact same screwup. Once you're in drive it runs perfect with no slippage at all, only when shifting from first to second does it kind of stall or slip. Thanks alot..................:1zhelp:

Oh man...auto tranny problems can be a bear to track down. I'm gonna make a couple of assumptions...the fluid is fresh and at the proper level and the harness is the original.

First check the diag codes...go here:
http://www.cygnusx1.net/supra/Library/TSRM/MK3/manual.aspx?Section=AT&Page=13
The ETC only throws codes for the 2 speed sensors and the solenoids.

Do a manual shift test. Disconnect the ETC (it's under the passenger side kick panel) and take for a test drive. Shift from L to D and see if there is anything unusual.

Inspect the throttle cable...take a look here:
http://www.cygnusx1.net/supra/Library/TSRM/MK3/manual.aspx?Section=AT&Page=19
This will definitely affect how the tranny shifts.

Here are some tests for the ETC:
http://www.cygnusx1.net/supra/Library/TSRM/MK3/manual.aspx?Section=AT&Page=28
I had a problem with the first test of the T1 terminal voltage...mine did not vary as described. In addition to the TPS or it's circuit, this can indicate a bad ETC...I swapped out the ETC and it fixed a lot of problems. If you test the ETC connector voltages, the diagram is viewing from the back of the connector...test with it connected to the ETC, ignition on.

This should get you started...good luck!

Hey Jdub, it was the safety neutral switch. I took mine off of my old tranny and it cranked up first try. It hasn't failed to crank yet................

as mentioned, that cable really effects how the transmission performs. thats what was adjusted on matt's car in the parking lot of royal garden.

here is a pic of where the crimp should be, in case you didnt catch that yesterday

btw, the pic is compliments of your buddy boost lee ;)
