I've got an 87t 5-speed. I'm 2k miles after a rebuild now. Transmission had new seals put in before reinstalling the motor.
Just took my first road trip from Tampa to Miami (about 250 miles). Towards the end of the trip I was going about 10mph for an hour because of an accident up ahead.
I just put a short shifter in and shaft under the shift knob was too hot to touch for more than four seconds and I could feel the heat of the tranny next to my right leg through the center console.
After the trip I checked the gear oil and level was up to filler plug.
Any ideas why the tranny was getting so hot? I'm still "breaking in" so I wasn't driving the car hard. Speeds stayed 70 or under during the trip.
