Redline MT90 in the r154 and ford 80w-90 with their additive(lsd) in the rear.

I used generic 80w-90 in the trans for a few hundred miles for a "flush", after 50 miles or so on the mt90 ive notice a HUGE difference!!

MT 90 definitely made my R154 shift better. Most noticeably it doesn't take 4 trys to get into reverse. Normally just 1 or 2 and it doesn't grind which is nice.

Also For the diff you can use any 75W-90 Gear oil that has LSD additive in it (do not put this in the transmission!). If you want the differential to be "tighter" it is good to do what grim says and buy an oil without additive and add the additive until the differential stops clunking. I personally use Redline 75W-90NS and added the Redline additive to it, about half a bottle.

Also to the OP this info is in the lubricant section along with a lot of great information so you should read around there to learn more.

Royal Purple for the lsd and r154. Shifts like a new car :icon_razz

I believe Jdub has said all royal purple has Diff additive (form the data sheets) in it making it a poor choice for the R154 (too slippery for the synchros to properly function). I'm sure he will chime in on this though.

So do you recommend flushing it and putting mt90?

I wouldn't run any of the RP gear oils in either a R154 or W58 and I would get it out of there before it causes your synchos to glaze...MT-90 is a excellent choice for a car putting out higher HP. MTL is good for most stock or lightly mod'ed cars.

i have a source for mt90 and most redline fluids at nearly cost locally.... "trackdogracing.com" $40 cash and i had 4 qts of MT90....

they are miata guys but cool as hell...

i HIGHLY recommend you add gear oil in the diff and add your own LSD additive.... You might be surprised at how loose your LSD really is... i know i was with "only" 98,000 on the car... mine only required 2 OZ of the additive (rebuild in the future)

on a side note, listen to jdub for oils...

For an LSD, Ford 75W-90 is the best bet for a differential with a lot of miles on it...get the Ford friction modifier and start with 1 oz. You my have to add more like Grim did.

If you want to go with the Red Line gear oil, you want to either:

- Get 75W-90 NS and the Red Line friction modifier and do the same as above

- or -

Get a quart of 75W-90 (with the modifier in it) and top off with 75W-90NS (no modifier in it). Several guys have gone this route with success...75W-90 tends to have too much of the modifier in it's formulation and can cause the LSD to slip. Especially true if the LSD has a lot of miles on it.

Having said that, I run a full fill of Red Line 75W-90 with no problems...my differential was rebuilt with a TRD LSD though (zero miles at fill).

As I've run normal oil, Royal Purple Max Gear, Royal Purple Syncromesh, and Redline MT-90 in my tranny, I can tell you right now that Royal Purple SUCKS.

I had a second gear grind with normal oil.
Put the Max Gear in and it smoothed it out a bit (probably from just cleaning everything), started grinding again.
Tried the Syncromesh, got worse (was thinking rebuild was in my very near future).
Put the Redline in as a last ditch effort. No more grind and it's been great ever since.

I use Royal Purple with no diff addivtive in my trans, and it does just fine. I also use Royal Purple with diff addivtive and its also fine. :icon_razz

Just because you're being stupid and like it doesn't mean others will follow (or, makes it correct) ;)

Read the link I posted (#6) genius.

Well the RP i bought said nothing about having diff addivtive in it. I think I even Pm'd you about this about a year ago.

Ummm...no you didn't. I would NEVER recommend ANYONE use RP gear oil in their tranny. That link I posted (over 2 years ago) proves it...if you would have taken the time to read it - or - take the time to read the tech info on the RP data sheets you would know that ALL RP gear oil contains friction modifier meant for an LSD. I can't help you choose to remain ignorant of the facts.

I don't appreciate you saying you PM'ed me on this subject and implying I said it was ok to use in a tranny.
That is simply not true in any way.

Yeah I also don't appreciate being called "stupid" or a "genius" in a sarcastic manner.
